Friday Night Faceoff: Sens prospect Montgomery the right fit in London
Blake Montgomery and the London Knights (30-6-1-0) are set for an electrifying Friday Night Faceoff matchup tonight as they host the Windsor Spitfires (29-7-2-1) in a battle of the OHL’s top two teams. With both teams tied at 61 points atop the league standings, this Western Conference showdown promises high stakes and high energy!
Since joining the Knights from the USHL in November, Montgomery has been a game-changer for the defending OHL champions in their pursuit of back-to-back J. Ross Robertson Cups. The Ottawa Senators prospect has quickly become a key force in London’s lineup, showcasing exceptional skill, adaptability, and determination.
Making his OHL debut on November 10, Montgomery had an immediate impact. Over 21 games, the Bowie, Maryland native, whose older brother Bryce played for the Knights from 2019-23, has tallied 13 goals, 14 assists, and 27 points. Montgomery has helped propel the Knights to first in the Midwest Division, second in the Western Conference, and tied for first in the overall OHL standings.
“It has been a smooth transition into the OHL,” said the 19-year-old forward. “It took me a little while to get adjusted here in London, but the group around me has made it an easy process.”
The 6-foot-4, 195lb. left-winger’s influence extends beyond personal stats, as he continues to elevate the team’s overall performance. “I’m working on being better defensively and maintaining consistency in transition as I develop alongside my teammates this season,” Montgomery added.
Originally selected by the Knights in the ninth round (176th overall) of the 2021 OHL Priority Selection, Montgomery’s rise has been nothing short of impressive as he rides an eight-game point streak into tonight’s action. Drafted in the fourth round (117th overall) by the Ottawa Senators in the 2024 NHL Draft, his continued development will be crucial as the Knights push for another deep playoff run.
Tonight’s game marks the third of six meetings between the Knights and Spitfires this season. Fans can catch the action live and for free across OHL social channels, including X, Facebook, YouTube, and on OHL Live on CHL TV. Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m. at Canada Life Place.
Don’t miss this must-watch clash as Montgomery and the Knights aim to take sole possession of first place in the OHL standings!
