Former OHL players recognized in 2025-26 OUA and AUS men’s hockey awards
The Ontario University Athletics (OUA) and Atlantic University Sport (AUS) handed out their 2025-26 men’s hockey major awards and released their first team, second team, and all-rookie selections for their respective leagues, with a long list of former Ontario Hockey League (OHL) players earning provincial recognition.
Major Award Winners with OHL Roots:
OUA West Most Valuable Player: Nolan Dann (Guelph Gryphons)
A former OHL forward with the Sarnia Sting, Niagara IceDogs, and Flint Firebirds, Nolan Dann put together an MVP season in the West, finishing as the conference’s top point producer with 40 points in 25 games. Dann helped push Guelph back into the postseason for the first time since 2019-20 and carried that production into the playoffs, scoring three goals in five games.
OUA East Rookie of the Year: Alexis Daviault (Ottawa Gee-Gees)
After stops in the OHL with the Sarnia Sting and Erie Otters, rookie defenceman Alexis Daviault made an immediate impact at Ottawa, leading East Division rookies in scoring with 24 points and pacing all conference rookies in assists (19).
OUA West Rookie of the Year: Colton Smith (Windsor Lancers)
Former London Knights and Windsor Spitfires forward Colton Smith delivered a big first varsity season, scoring 21 goals and 29 points in 27 games as Windsor finished atop the OUA West.
OUA West Defenceman of the Year: Nathan Allensen (Guelph Gryphons)
A former Barrie Colts defenceman, Nathan Allensen, earned top West blueliner honours after posting 28 points in 28 regular season games, highlighted by nine multi-point outings and an overtime winner.
OUA East Goaltender of the Year: Zach Roy (Nipissing Lakers)
Former Hamilton Bulldogs goaltender Zach Roy led the East Division with a .925 save percentage, adding a 2.35 goals-against average and two shutouts.
OUA West Goaltender of the Year: Max Donoso (Windsor Lancers)
After time in the OHL with the Ottawa 67’s and Windsor Spitfires, Max Donoso started every game for the Lancers and helped them finish first in the West with 18 wins, recording a 2.22 goals-against average and three shutouts. He is now aiming to backstop them to a national championship.
OUA West Randy Gregg Award: Matt McNamara (Windsor Lancers)
Former Peterborough Petes defenceman Matt McNamara, now Windsor’s captain, was recognized for leadership and community involvement, adding 21 points while keeping a low penalty total.
OUA West Coach of the Year: Kevin Hamlin (Windsor Lancers)
While his coaching career has been at the U Sports level, Hamlin has OHL playing experience, having suited up in the league during his junior days.
AUS Don Wells Trophy: Cody Morgan (UNB Reds)
In his fourth season with the UNB Reds, forward Cody Morgan (Kingston, Windsor, Flint, London) has been chosen as the Atlantic University Sport’s most sportsmanlike player and recipient of the Don Wells Trophy. Morgan appeared in all 30 games this season for UNB, where he led the team in scoring with 40 points (18-22–40). In addition, he only took two penalties all season.
