Firebirds’ Day sets new club wins record
Nathan Day stopped 31-of-33 on Thursday in Peterborough, collecting a club record setting 63rd win as the Flint Firebirds defeated the Peterborough Petes 7-2.
Day improved to 19-16-2-3 as he owns a 3.07 goals-against average, .890 save percentage and two shutouts, all career bests to this point in the season.
A Grimsby, Ont. native who just turned 20-years-old on Tuesday, Day was selected by the Edmonton Oilers in the sixth round (184th overall) of the 2023 NHL Draft. The 6-foot-4, 205Ib. netminder owns a career mark of 63-55-3-5 with a 3.55 goals-against average and .877 save percentage over 137 career regular season games.
The former Niagara North Stars U16 AAA goaltender was selected by the Firebirds in the third round (57th overall) of the 2021 OHL Priority Selection and was the understudy to former Firebirds goaltender Luke Cavallin in his rookie season as the ‘BIrds reached the Western Conference Championship Series, falling to seven games to Windsor.
Day and the Firebirds sit sixth in the Western Conference and continue their East Division road trip on Friday night in Kingston.
