HISTORY
Oshawa is located in the Durham Region, just east of Toronto, and is known for its rich automotive and hockey heritage. The Oshawa Generals are the most historic and successful franchises in Canadian junior hockey, with roots dating back to 1937. Named in honour of General Motors, the team has captured an OHL-record 13 league championships and a CHL-high five Memorial Cup titles, most recently in 2015. The Generals have long been a symbol of excellence in the league, producing legendary alumni. With a strong community presence and a tradition of excellence, the Generals continue to build on their legacy as one of the CHL’s most iconic teams.
EDUCATION
Current Generals high school players attend Maxwell Heights Secondary School, a supportive academic environment where many have found success in the classroom. Oshawa is also home to Ontario Tech University, Trent University Durham GTA and Durham College, offering strong post-secondary options for players interested in continuing their studies.

ARENA
The Tribute Communities Centre is a modern sports and entertainment facility located in the heart of downtown Oshawa. Opened in 2006, it replaced the historic Oshawa Civic Auditorium and serves as the home of the Oshawa Generals. The arena offers an electric game-day atmosphere and regularly hosts concerts, shows, and community events. As a central hub for entertainment in the Durham Region, the Tribute Communities Centre plays a vital role in bringing fans and the community together.
In April 2025, the City of Oshawa announced a historic 30-year partnership with the Oshawa Generals and Oak View Group, securing the team’s future in the city until 2055. As part of this agreement, the city is investing $50 million to modernize the Tribute Communities Centre. Planned enhancements include expanded seating capacity, renovations to common areas, and upgraded team amenities. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2027 and will be phased over two years to minimize disruptions.

The Oshawa Generals are supported by 19 dedicated billet families across the Durham Region who provide players with a home away from home. These families are essential to the team’s success, creating a supportive and stable environment that allows players to thrive both on and off the ice.
NOTABLE ALUMNI
The Oshawa Generals boast one of the most storied alumni lists in the CHL, with a legacy of producing elite NHL talent. Among their most iconic graduates is John Tavares, a first-overall NHL Draft pick who led the Generals in scoring during his time in Oshawa. Eric Lindros, a dominant force in junior and professional hockey, also spent part of his OHL career with the Generals and was later inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. Another legendary name tied to the franchise is Bobby Orr, who played for the Generals as a teenager before redefining the role of a defenceman in the NHL. With a rich history of player development and a tradition of excellence, the Generals continue to be a cornerstone of junior hockey success.
SPECIAL EVENTS
The Generals take pride in building strong team chemistry and community connections through a variety of special events. A longstanding team tradition includes the annual Thanksgiving dinner hosted by owner Rocco Tullio, bringing players and staff together to share a meal and bond like family. The Oshawa Generals take their name from this automotive legacy, named in honour of GM, which helped establish and support the team in its early days.
