The Ontario Hockey League (OHL) is home to 20 teams—17 in Canada and three in the United States. Shifting the focus beyond hockey operations, the OHL aims to highlight the distinctiveness of each member club. The League will showcase how current players and future prospects embrace their junior hockey careers within their respective cities, emphasizing the unique qualities that define each team and its community.
HISTORY
Brampton, located in the Greater Toronto Area, is one of Canada’s fastest-growing and most diverse cities. Known for its deep roots in manufacturing and innovation, Brampton has grown into a dynamic urban centre with a strong sense of community and cultural pride. The Brampton Steelheads, nicknamed “The Trout”, played their inaugural season in the city this year following their relocation, building on the foundation established by the Mississauga Steelheads, who entered the league in 2012. Over the past 15 years, the franchise has developed numerous professional-level athletes and earned a reputation for strong player development. The team reached a major milestone in 2017, claiming the Eastern Conference title and advancing to the OHL Championship Series for the first time in franchise history.
EDUCATION
Current Brampton Steelheads high school players attend Philip Pocock Catholic Secondary School, where they balance academic success with their on-ice development. The school provides a supportive environment that accommodates the demands of junior hockey. For players pursuing post-secondary education, the Greater Toronto Area offers access to top institutions including the University of Toronto Mississauga, Sheridan College, and more.

ARENA
The CAA Centre is a multi-purpose sports and entertainment venue located in Brampton, serving as the home of the Brampton Steelheads. The facility features a 5,000-seat main bowl, three additional ice pads, and community amenities including a sports hall of fame and fitness spaces. Owned by the City of Brampton, the CAA Centre has hosted major events such as the IIHF Women’s World Championship, international curling tournaments, and various OHL showcases, cementing its place as a key venue in the region. It was previously home to the former Brampton Battalion, the Brampton Beast of the ECHL, and the Brampton Excelsiors lacrosse teams.
BILLET LIFE
The Steelheads are proud to be supported by 11 dedicated billet families, all located in the Peel Region. These families offer players a safe, stable, and welcoming home away from home throughout the season.
SPECIAL EVENTS
The Steelheads participate in various special events that foster team bonding and strengthen community ties. Bowling outings throughout the season provide players and staff with a fun, relaxed setting to build camaraderie off the ice. A highlight each year is the team’s annual Christmas party at the Hockey Hall of Fame, offering a memorable celebration of the season in an iconic venue.

Garden Square, located in the heart of downtown, is a lively community hub that hosts outdoor movies, cultural events, and live performances.
