Eastern Conference Final Game 7 Preview
After six games filled with momentum swings, overtime drama, and playoff intensity, the Eastern Conference Final between the Barrie Colts and Brantford Bulldogs will be decided in a winner-take-all Game 7 on home ice in Brantford. Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m. tonight, with the game streaming live and free exclusively on FloHockey’s YouTube channel.
Road to Game 7
What once looked like a commanding series for Brantford has turned into one of the most dramatic comebacks of the postseason.
The Bulldogs held a 3-1 series lead and were one win away from advancing after a dominant Game 4 performance. Since then, however, Barrie has refused to go quietly.
Back-to-back overtime victories have kept the Colts alive, including a thrilling Game 6 comeback that saw Barrie erase a multi-goal deficit before Mason Zebeski buried the winner in extra time. It marked the latest example of a Colts group that has leaned heavily on depth, resilience, and timely scoring throughout the series.
Now, with all momentum on their side, Barrie enters Game 7 believing their comeback story isn’t finished.
For Brantford, the focus shifts to resetting. Despite the recent losses, the Bulldogs have controlled large stretches of play in this series and now return to home ice with a chance to respond under pressure and punch their ticket to the OHL Championship.
A Familiar Stage
Game 7s carry history, and both franchises bring compelling storylines into this decisive matchup.
Barrie has no shortage of experience in winner-take-all scenarios. The Colts have played in nine Game 7s in franchise history, including their memorable 1999-2000 run that saw them win the conference semifinals and the OHL Championship in Game 7. More recently, Barrie defeated the Kingston Frontenacs in a Game 7 during last year’s playoffs, adding another chapter to their postseason resume.
For Brantford, this marks uncharted territory since relocating. The Bulldogs have yet to play a Game 7 in Brantford, making this a historic moment for the current group and its fanbase. However, the franchise’s lineage tells a deeper story. The Hamilton Bulldogs captured the 2022 OHL Championship in a Game 7 victory, while the Belleville Bulls – another predecessor – played in multiple decisive games, including a 2013 Eastern Conference Final Game 7 loss… to Barrie.
A Trend in the East
Game 7s have become a defining feature of the Eastern Conference Final in recent years.
This marks the third time in the last four seasons that the East Final has gone the distance, following Oshawa vs. North Bay in 2024 and Peterborough vs. North Bay in 2023. Prior to that, the last Game 7 in the Eastern Conference Final came in 2013, which was another series involving Barrie.
Season Series Snapshot
The two teams were evenly matched throughout the regular season, splitting their four meetings:
- Oct. 29 – Barrie 5 at Brantford 4
- Jan. 25 – Barrie 1 at Brantford 7
- Feb. 21 – Brantford 4 at Barrie 7
- Mar. 5 – Brantford 5 at Barrie 3
With the series tied 2-2, it’s only fitting that their postseason clash requires a Game 7 to determine a winner.
Winner Takes All
There is no margin for error. One game. One opportunity to advance. One team moving on to face the Kitchener Rangers for the OHL Championship, while the other heads home.
