Dave Cameron coaches 1000th OHL Game
Ottawa 67’s head coach Dave Cameron reached a significant milestone on Sunday afternoon, coaching his 1000th career game in the Ontario Hockey League as the Barber Poles hosted the Owen Sound Attack.
Cameron becomes the eighth head coach in OHL history to reach the 1000 game mark, joining a short list of the league’s most experienced and accomplished bench bosses.
OHL coaches with 1000 or more games:
- Brian Kilrea, 2,157
- Bert Templeton, 1,735
- Stan Butler, 1,716
- George Burnett, 1,599
- Dale Hunter, 1,547
- Larry Mavety, 1,514
- Marty Williamson, 1,088
- Dave Cameron, 1,000
Since beginning his OHL coaching career in the 1997-98 season, Cameron has compiled a career league record of 536-357-61-45, spending time behind the bench with the Ottawa 67’s, Mississauga, Toronto St. Michael’s Majors, and the Soo Greyhounds.
A native of Kinkora, P.E.I., Cameron is one of just 10 coaches in OHL history to record 500 career wins. His coaching resume also includes eight seasons at the NHL level from 2011-18, including two seasons as head coach of the Ottawa Senators from 2014-16.
Cameron’s milestone comes with the 67’s in the middle of a strong season, as Ottawa sits one point out of first place in the East Division with a record of 37-10-1-2.
Now in his 28th season behind an OHL bench, Cameron’s longevity and consistency have placed him among the most experienced coaches the league has seen, with Sunday’s game marking another milestone in a career that continues to grow.
