Dates to circle for 2024-25 regular season
The London Knights celebrated their OHL championship by hoisting the Robertson Cup this past May, followed by the Saginaw Spirit securing a historic Memorial Cup victory to close out the 2023-24 season!
Here are some important dates to mark for the 2024-25 season.
1. #OHLOpeningWeek kicks off September 25 in Saginaw
The puck drops on the 2024-25 OHL season on Wednesday September 25th in Saginaw as the Memorial Cup champions will raise their banner to the rafters ahead of their season-opener against the Windsor Spitfires. The Peterborough Petes will hold their home opener a night later as the lone game on Thursday, taking on the Kingston Frontenacs. The OHL champion London Knights will celebrate their J. Ross Robertson Cup title at home to the Flint Firebirds as part of the season’s lone 10-game schedule on Friday. a night that also sees the OHL make its return to Brampton, with the Steelheads hosting their home opener at the CAA Centre against the Brantford Bulldogs.
2. Generals, Attack, Spitfires and Battalion clash on Thanksgiving Monday
OHL fans can be thankful for hockey this Thanksgiving holiday as the Owen Sound Attack visit the North Bay Battalion and the Oshawa Generals travel to Windsor as they hit the ice for 2:00pm matinees on Monday October 14th.
3. Knights, Spirit square off in Memorial Cup final rematch on October 18
After a hard-fought Memorial Cup final battle to close out 2023-24, the OHL champion London Knights and Memorial Cup champion Saginaw Spirit will meet again on Friday October 18 at Budweiser Gardens.
4. Six School Day games on the schedule
Beginning Wednesday November 6, a series of five School Day games are scattered throughout the OHL schedule featuring morning start times. The Sarnia Sting will host the Flint Firebirds at 10:30am on Wednesday, October 23rd before the Ottawa 67’s visit the Kingston Frontenacs at 10:30am on the 6th of November. The teams will swap places on November 12 as the 67’s host the Frontenacs at 10:30am. The Guelph Storm pay a visit to Brampton on December 4th, with the puck dropping at 11am. The Erie Otters play host to the Guelph Storm at 11:00am Tuesday February 4, while the Steelheads host the Oshawa Generals in their second school day game with an 11am start on Wednesday March 5.
5. Inaugural CHL/USA Prospects Challenge presented by Kubota
Building off of one of hockey’s greatest rivalries between Canada and the United States, the CHL USA Prospects Challenge will see the top first-year NHL Draft-eligible prospects from the CHL’s three-member leagues – WHL, OHL, and QMJHL – face off against those from USA Hockey’s NTDP in a two-game series taking place this upcoming November!
6. Second half starts with 14 teams and 14 games
Teams return from the Christmas break and hit the ground running with 14 teams in action on Saturday December 28, kicking-off a 14-game weekend to close out 2024.
7. Busy New Year’s Eve schedule
Seven teams will play at home on New Year’s Eve to close out the 2024 calendar, including the North Bay Battalion (vs. Kitchener at 1:00pm), Brampton Steelheads (vs. Sudbury Wolves at 2:00pm), Windsor Spitfires (vs. Flint at 2:05pm), London Knights (vs. Sarnia at 4:00pm), Niagara IceDogs (vs. Peterborough at 6:00pm), Erie Otters (vs. Brantford at 6:00pm), Barrie Colts (vs. Oshawa at 7:30pm). There are an additional three games slated for New Year’s Day on January 1st, with the Oshawa Generals (vs. Owen Sound), Sarnia Sting (vs. London Knights) and Kingston Frontenacs (vs. Brampton Steelheads) all in action.
8. Inaugural OHL Top Prospects event slated for January
First mentioned in the OHL’s regular season schedule release back in June, the wheels are in motion for the first-ever OHL Top Prospects event that will take place in January 2025. Stay tuned for further information during #OHLOpeningWeek on specifics and a soon-to-be-revealed host city! While we’re in January, the trade deadline continues to be its usual date of January 10th (which falls on a Friday this year).
9. Full Family Day schedule on February 19
It’ll be a jam-packed Family Day afternoon on Monday, February 19 as 10 different teams host matchups including the Brantford Bulldogs (vs. Soo), Kingston Frontenacs (vs. Barrie), Ottawa 67’s (vs. North Bay), Brampton Steelheads (vs. Niagara), Windsor Spitfires (vs. Owen Sound), London Knights (vs. Flint), Oshawa Generals (vs. Erie), Peterborough Petes (vs. Kitchener), Sarnia Sting (vs. Saginaw), and the Guelph Storm (vs. Sudbury).
10. Season wraps up March 23
The 2024-25 OHL season concludes on Sunday March 23 with an eight-game schedule as the Brantford Bulldogs host Ottawa, Brampton Steelheads host Kingston, North Bay Battalion host Sudbury, Soo Greyhounds host Sarnia, Guelph Storm host Kitchener, London Knights host Erie, Saginaw Spirit host Flint, and Oshawa Generals host Peterborough to finish of the regular season before teams compete in the OHL Playoffs for the J. Ross Robertson Cup with the goal of competing for the Memorial Cup that will be hosted next spring in Rimouski, Quebec.
