Canadian World Junior hopefuls face U SPORTS Selects in Oakville
Game 2 – U SPORTS Selects 6, National Junior Team 1
Canadian World Junior hopefuls led 1-0 after 20 minutes as OHL scoring leader Carson Rehkopf (Kitchener Rangers) chipped in with an assist on the opening marker, but it was all U SPORTS from there on out.
The collegiate standouts scored a pair of second period goals before completely taking over in the third with four more, resulting in a 6-1 final score.
Former Owen Sound Attack and North Bay Battalion forward Matthew Struthers of the StFX X-Men finished with a goal and an assist while Saginaw Spirit alumnus Dalton Duhart of Queen’s University scored and Austen Keating (UNB), Brady Gilmour (UNB) and Jonathan Yantsis (Queen’s) all registered assists.
Domenic DiVincentiis (North Bay Battalion) stopped 11-of-14 shots in the Canadian crease.

Game 1 – National Junior Team 4, U SPORTS Selects 2
Canada’s National Junior Team hopefuls squared off against a team of U SPORTS Selects, one that includes eight OHL graduates in the first of two scrimmages on Tuesday afternoon at the Sixteen Mile Sports Complex in Oakville.
The World Junior squad skated to a 4-2 win thanks to a goal and an assist from London Knights forward Denver Barkey. North Bay Battalion defender Ty Nelson picked-up an assist as the closely-matched affair saw the Juniors outshoot U SPORTS 27-26.
North Bay Battalion goaltender and reigning OHL Goaltender of the Year Domenic DiVincentiis saw time in the U SPORTS crease, stopping 12 of the 13 shots that came his way. Former Owen Sound Attack and North Bay Battalion forward Matthew Struthers of the StFX X-Men recorded an assist.
