Canada cruises to 8-3 win over host Germany
Canada 8, Germany 3
The Canadians bounced back from their tournament-opening loss, defeating host Germany in a relentless 8-3 battle at the 2022 IIHF World Under-18 Hockey Championship in Landshut and Kaufbeuren, Germany.
The OHL’s Spencer Sova (Erie Otters), Nolan Collins (Sudbury Wolves), Kocha Delic (Sudbury Wolves) and David Goyette (Sudbury Wolves) were in Sunday’s lineup as Nolan Lalonde (Erie Otters) guarded the crease, making 33 saves.
Sova and Collins each contributed secondary assists, while Goyette added to Canada’s score sheet with a goal and an assist as they built up an early 4-0 lead, but saw it dwindle down to 4-3 – thanks to three points from Germany’s Julian Lutz. The momentum shifted back and Canada scored another four for the win.
Connor Bedard (Regina Pats) had three goals, leading Canada to victory.
Canada resumes tournament play on Tuesday against Czechia at 9:30am ET.
