Attack and Otters complete trade involving 2007-born forwards
The Owen Sound Attack and Erie Otters have completed a trade involving two 2007-born forwards, with Wesley Royston heading to the Attack and Michael Dec joining the Otters.
Royston, a 6-foot-4, 190-pound right winger from Oro-Medonte, Ont., was originally selected 24th overall by the Otters in the 2023 OHL Priority Selection. Over 121 career OHL games, he’s registered 20 goals and 15 assists for 35 points. Recently, Royston received a C rating on NHL Central Scouting’s preliminary list for the 2026 NHL Draft, projecting him as a potential mid-round pick.
“We are very excited to bring a player like Wesley Royston into the mix,” said Attack General Manager Dale DeGray. “While it’s not easy giving up a player like Michael Dec, in order to get a player like Wesley that’s what was needed. Wesley is a big, strong power forward who can add to the offence and create space for his teammates. We look forward to seeing him in our lineup and welcome his family to the organization.”
Royston is expected to make his Attack debut wearing number 19 on Saturday against the Sudbury Wolves at the Bayshore before facing his former team, the Erie Otters, on Sunday afternoon.
Heading the other way, Michael Dec joins the Otters after posting 15 points (3G–12A) through 16 games with Owen Sound this season. The 18-year-old Mississauga, Ont., native was originally selected in the eighth round (152nd overall) of the 2023 OHL Priority Selection and is committed to Cornell University for the 2027–28 season.
Dec joined the Attack last year following NCAA eligibility rule changes, recording nine points (4G–5A) in eight games. Before that, he played at St. Andrew’s College, where he produced 21 points (8G–13A) in 14 games while skating alongside current Otters defenceman Oliver Turner.
“We are very excited to welcome Michael and the Dec family to the Otters,” said Otters Director of Hockey Operations Scott Grieve. “Michael brings skill and offensive IQ to our group. We thank Wes for his time in Erie and wish him the best moving forward.”
Dec will wear number 25 and is expected to make his Otters debut on Saturday in Barrie.
