Attack acquire energetic winger Jacob Therrien
The Owen Sound Attack reunited head coach Scott Wray with Jacob Therrien on Monday, a pair familiar with one another from their days with the North Bay Battalion.
Wray, who took the lead coaching job in Owen Sound last season, helped steer the young Bears to a 26-35-4-3 mark. They gain experience and a competitive edge with the addition of the 19-year-old Therrien, who embarks on his fourth OHL season.
“Jacob is a feisty and fiery Brad Marchand type player that I think the fans will instantly enjoy his style of play,” said Attack general manager Dale DeGray. “Jacob is a very consistent productive player that is a proven playoff performer.”
Owen Sound paid a good price for the Courtice, Ont. product, with the Battalion receiving a second round pick in 2029, third round pick (Kitchener’s) in 2026, a fifth round pick (Kingston’s) in 2028 and a conditional fourth round pick in 2029.
“Jacob is a player I know very well obviously coaching him for a couple of years and I’m really excited to see what he can do coming to the Western Conference,” said Wray. “Jacob has the ability to score and also agitate the other team at the same time. He’s an energy type player and I think he’s going to fit in our culture right away.”
North Bay’s third round pick in 2022, the 5-foot-8, 170Ib. Therrien produced 44 goals, 45 assists and 89 points over 170 regular season games in green, paired with 12 points (7-5–12) over 21 postseason matchups.
“Jacob has given his heart and soul to our program over the last four years and, as tough as it will be to see him leave, we know he is in good hands with coach Wray and the group in Owen Sound,” said Adam Dennis, Battalion director of hockey operations.
“We thank Jacob and his family for all of their contributions to our team and community and wish him the best in his next chapter.”
In an unrelated roster move, the Attack announced Monday that blueliner Max Bleicher and forward Rafik Varosyan will return home to Europe in 2025-26, leaving the Attack with three open import slots ahead of the 2025 CHL Import Draft set for July 2nd.
