Spitfires retire back-to-back champion Taylor Hall’s #4
The Windsor Spitfires honoured back-to-back Mastercard Memorial Cup champion and all-time great Taylor Hall on Sunday afternoon at the WFCU Centre, raising his #4 to the heights of the arena where it joins a number of other franchise cornerstones of years gone by.
Hall, who recorded 280 points (123-157–280) over 183 regular season games in a Spitfires uniform from 2007-10, is the only player in Mastercard Memorial Cup history to receive back-to-back Stafford Smythe Memorial Trophies (2009 & 2010) as MVP of the prestigious event.
The native of Kingston, Ont. and former first overall pick of the 2010 NHL Draft currently plays for the New Jersey Devils where he recently became the sixth NHL player in the past 25 years to record a point in 21 consecutive games.
Hall is the 10th Spitfire to have his number retired by the team, joining former teammates in Ryan Ellis (6), Adam Henrique (14) and Mickey Renaud (18) along with others in Adam Graves (9), Bill Bowler (9), Ed Jovanovski (14), Steve Ott (14), Ernie Godden (15) and Scott Miller (23).
