Jenner Commits to Generals
The Oshawa Generals have officially welcomed their number one draft pick into the fold.
General Manager/Coach Chris DePiero announced on Wednesday that Boone Jenner, the club’s first pick in the 2009 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection and fourth player selected overall, had officially agreed to terms with the club.
"We are just delighted to have a player of Boone’s calibre officially with our hockey club," DePiero said. "Boone is a terrific young man with enormous potential and we believe he’s going to be a big piece of the puzzle for us moving forward. "As we said after we drafted him last month, our scouts identified him early and determined he was an all-round, two-way centreman, a guy we’re going to be proud to wear that Generals uniform," DePiero said.
Jenner was one of the top rated players available in this year’s draft, as the 6-foot-1, 190-pound centre is considered a skilled, highly competitive player with great offensive ability. He had 49 goals and had 54 assists for 103 points with the Elgin-Middlesex Chiefs last season.
After OHL teams select players they must officially sign with the club and with his parents looking on, Jenner committed to the club at his home on Tuesday evening after meeting with Generals staff.
"This is where I wanted to be," Jenner said after donning a Generals jersey with his name on the back for the first time after being drafted last month. "I’ve talked to the coaches here. I like the atmosphere here, I like the team and I think it’s the kind of team where I can model my game and make a big impact."
DePiero feels that Jenner’s upbringing and family influences make him the kind of player Generals fans will enjoy watching, and make him a perfect fit for what the club is trying to accomplish both off and on the ice.
"Our values here are based around Commitment, Belief, Trust and Excellence and we believe he exemplifies that better than any player we saw," DePiero said. "Our fans will enjoy watching Boone’s playing abilities and especially enjoy the values he demonstrates night in and night out. "We feel he can bring it on the ice and encompass those four core values. He’s the right guy for us and we’re very happy he’s committed to our hockey club."
