Knights and IceDogs complete swap of top OHL talent
The London Knights and Niagara IceDogs have completed a trade involving a pair of former OHL Priority Selection picks.
The Knights have acquired forward Braidy Wassilyn from Niagara in exchange for Noah Read.
Read, selected 72nd overall by the Anaheim Ducks in the 2025 NHL Draft, was part of London’s OHL and Memorial Cup championship team last season. The 18-year-old recorded 10 goals and 26 points over 45 games in 2024-25 and has one goal and one assist through 10 games so far this season. Originally chosen by the Knights in the 10th round (188th overall) of the 2023 OHL Priority Selection, the native of Komoka, Ont., developed into an NHL prospect during his time in London.
Wassilyn, 17, was the fourth overall pick in the 2024 OHL Priority Selection and represented Canada Red at the 2024 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge. The Edmonton, Alta., native set a Niagara rookie franchise record with 31 assists last season, finishing with 39 points in 62 games. After missing the start of this season due to injury, he’s returned to post two goals and five points through six games. Rated as a B-level prospect by NHL Central Scouting for the 2026 NHL Draft, Wassilyn looks to continue his development in London alongside former Niagara teammate Max Crete, who joined the Knights in June.
This marks the second time in three years that London and Niagara have completed a trade involving a fourth-overall OHL Priority Selection pick, following the 2022 deal that sent Sam Dickinson to the Knights.
