Steelheads’ Spencer Sova commits to Omaha University
Brampton Steelheads assistant captain and overage defenceman Spencer Sova has announced his commitment to Omaha University for the 2025-26 NCAA hockey season.
A native of Windsor, Ont., Sova was selected 8th overall by the Erie Otters in the 2020 OHL Priority Selection. The 6-foot-1 left-shot defender contributed significantly from the blueline for the Otters as their captain, before being acquired by the Steelheads in August 2024. He wore a letter for both respective clubs and has posted 130 points (44-86–130) over 248 career regular season games.
Last year, he received an invitation from the New Jersey Devils to participate in their NHL development camp before being released back to the OHL.
Located in Omaha, Nebraska, the University of Nebraska is home to the Omaha Mavericks men’s ice hockey team – an NCAA Division I college ice hockey program that competes in the NCHC conference.
Sova becomes the first OHL player to join the Mavericks for the 2025-26 season.
