Today, we take a closer look at the New York Rangers and their developing talent across the OHL.
Malcolm Spence (LW) – Erie Otters (2022-25)
Selected: 2nd Round, 43rd Overall (2025)
OHL Career Stats: 195 GP, 67 G, 110 A, 177 PTS, -7
Age: 18
Selected 43rd overall by the New York Rangers in this year’s draft, Erie Otters winger Malcolm Spence capped off his season with a career-best 73 points (32-41–73) in 65 games, averaging over a point per game. Earlier this offseason, Spence committed to the University of Michigan for the 2025-26 campaign, where he will continue his development.
Evan Passmore (D) – Barrie Colts (2023-25)
Selected: 6th Round, 171st Overall (2025)
OHL Career Stats: 115 GP, 3 G, 12 A, 15 PTS, -5
Age: 18
A 6-foot-4 right-shot defenceman, Evan Passmore was selected in the sixth round of this year’s draft by the Rangers. He posted a career-high 11 points and 58 penalty minutes during the 2024-25 season with the Barrie Colts, bringing size and physicality to the blue line.
Artem Gonchar (D) – Sudbury Wolves (2025-26)
Selected: 3rd Round, 89th Overall (2025)
OHL Career Stats: N/A
Age: 18
Artem Gonchar was taken 89th overall in this year’s draft and later selected in the first round of the CHL Import Draft by the Sudbury Wolves. The left-handed defenceman from Russia spent last season in the MHL with Magnitogorsk Stalnye Lisy, where he recorded 25 points (7-18–25) in 50 games. He is set to make his OHL debut in the fall.
Nathan Aspinall (LW) – Flint Firebirds (2022-25)
Selected: 5th Round, 159th Overall (2024)
OHL Career Stats: 156 GP, 36 G, 49 A, 85 PTS, -26
Age: 19
Nathan Aspinall spent the majority of his 2024-25 season with the Flint Firebirds, where he posted a career high and fourth-best points (47), goals (17), and assists (30) on the team. In April, he signed an amateur tryout agreement (ATO) with the Hartford Wolf Pack and dressed for five games to close out the season.
Carey Terrance (C) – Erie Otters (2021-25)
Acquired: June 12, 2025
OHL Career Stats: 230 GP, 89 G, 73 A, 162 PTS, -49
Age: 20
Captain of the Erie Otters in 2024–25, Carey Terrance was acquired by the Rangers in an offseason trade from the Anaheim Ducks, returning him to his home state. He posted 39 points (20-19–39) in 45 games before an injury in February sidelined him for the remainder of the season. The Akwesasne, N.Y., native also helped Team USA capture gold at the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship, scoring twice in the tournament.
Dylan Roobroeck (C) – Niagara IceDogs (2021-22), Oshawa Generals (2022-23)
Selected: 6th Round, 178th Overall (2023)
OHL Career Stats: 200 GP, 49 G, 97 A, 146 PTS, +1
Age: 21
Roobroeck wrapped up his rookie AHL season in 2024-25 with an impressive 34-point performance (20-14–34) in 72 games for the Wolf Pack. The 6-foot-7 centre led the team in goals and was tied for eighth among league rookies, earning him the team’s “Rookie of the Year” honours.
Bryce McConnell-Barker (C) – Soo Greyhounds (2021-24)
Selected: 3rd Round, 97th Overall (2022)
OHL Career Stats: 188 GP, 75 G, 102 A, 177 PTS, +1
Age: 21
The former Soo Greyhounds captain completed his first full AHL season with Hartford after getting a brief taste of pro hockey in the 2023-24 playoffs. McConnell-Barker recorded 15 points (7-8–15) and 34 penalty minutes over 68 games in 2024-25.
Brennan Othmann (LW) – Flint Firebirds (2019-23), Peterborough Petes (2022-23)
Selected: 1st Round, 16th Overall (2021)
OHL Career Stats: 177 GP, 96 G, 101 A, 197 PTS, +26
Age: 22
Despite being limited to 49 games due to injury, Brennan Othmann split time between Hartford and the Rangers during the 2024-25 season. He picked up his first NHL point on March 22, 2025, and registered 20 points (12-8–20) and 35 PIM in 27 AHL games. Heading into the new season, Othmann is aiming to lock down a full-time role in New York under new head coach Mike Sullivan.
