OHL Grads Win Stanley Cup with Bruins
The Ontario Hockey League would like to congratulate the entire Boston Bruins organization for capturing a Stanley Cup Championship but in particular congratulate the eight OHL graduates listed on the Bruins’ final playoff roster including Tyler Seguin who played in the OHL one season ago and was named the league’s Most Outstanding Player of the Year.
OHL Graduates on the Boston Bruins:
Gregory Campbell – Plymouth/Kitchener (2000-03)
Nathan Horton – Oshawa (2001-03)
Chris Kelly – London/Sudbury (1997-2001)
Adam McQuaid – Sudbury (2003-07)
Daniel Paille – Guelph (2000-04)
Marc Savard – Oshawa (1993-97)
Tyler Seguin – Plymouth (2008-10)
Shawn Thornton – Peterborough (1995-97)
Four of the players above have now won both a Robertson Cup title and Stanley Cup title including Thornton in 1996 with the Petes, Savard in 1997 with the Generals, Campbell in 2003 with the Rangers, and Paille in 2004 with the Storm. Campbell went on to win a Memorial Cup title in 2003, while Bruins’ teammates Milan Lucic (Vancouver 2007), Andrew Ference (Portland 1998), and Head Coach Claude Julien (Hull 1997) also captured the CHL’s top prize.
In addition to the eight players on the Bruins, three members of their coaching staff are graduates of the OHL including Head Coach Claude Julien who played with Oshawa/Windsor (1977-81). Furthermore, Assistant Coach Geoff Ward coached Kitchener and Guelph from 1994-99, and Assistant Coach Doug Jarvis played with Peterborough from 1972-75.
The OHL would also like to recognize the four graduates that competed on the Vancouver Canucks including Cody Hodgson – Brampton (2006-10), Manny Malhotra – Guelph (1996-98), Victor Oreskovich – Kitchener (2005-07), and Raffi Torres – Brampton (1998-2001).
In total, 32 CHL graduates competed in the 2011 Stanley Cup Finals between Boston and Vancouver.
