U SPORTS Report: Oct. 18, 2023
A total of 228 OHL alumni are playing in the U SPORTS men’s hockey ranks this season. Throughout the year the U SPORTS Report will keep tabs on former OHL names doing great things in the OUA, AUS and Canada West ranks on the road to the 2024 U SPORTS University Cup to be held from March 14-17 in Toronto, Ont.
SPIRIT ALUMNUS DALTON DUHART LEADS U SPORTS SCORING RANKS
Ranking first among all U SPORTS point-getters, Queen Gaels Dalton Duhart (London/Barrie/Saginaw) has had a strong start to the season, earning OUA Athlete of the Week honours with seven goals, seven assists, and 14 points (7-7-14) over four games played. Entering his sophomore campaign with the Gaels, Duhart spent four seasons in the OHL, registering 109 points (40-69-109) over 222 appearances between the London Knights, Barrie Colts, and Saginaw Spirit.

UBC, BROCK, QUEEN’S, AND UNB REMAIN UNDEFEATED IN WEEK 2
The Queen’s Gaels, who feature 20 OHL graduates on their roster this season, remain undefeated in the OUA, building on their 4-0 record with two wins in the nation’s capital over the Ottawa GeeGees and Carleton Ravens this past weekend. Nolan Hutcheson (Sudbury Wolves) and Dalton Duhart (London/Barrie/Saginaw) remain in the U SPORTS top-scorer ranks, each registering at least a point per game so far this season.

The Brock Badgers continued their four game win streak on the road, defeating the Guelph Gryphons and the Western Mustangs as Ethan Sims (Niagara/Hamilton), Ryan Stepien (Saginaw/Kitchener/Ottawa), and Ryan Thompson (North Bay/Erie/Soo) all found the back of the net on top of Tyler Burnie‘s (Kingston) pair of markers.
The reigning National Champion UNB Reds remain a force to be reckoned with, blanking the Dalhousie Tigers 8-0 on Friday before defeating the St. FX X-men on Saturday as Mike Petizian (Kitchener Rangers) netted the overtime winner. Fueled by 14 OHL alumni, Saginaw Spirit graduate Brady Gilmour has recorded one goal, seven assists, and eight points in four games played with the Reds as they looking to build on their winning streak this season.

Helping the UBC Thunderbirds clinch their sixth win of the season, Flint Firebirds alumnus Jack Wismer tallied a goal in one of UBC’s two weekend wins over the Manitoba Bisons. The Stoney Creek, Ont. native has registered one goal, two assist, and six points in six games played this season.
