Ryan Ellis Records 300th Career Point
Ryan Ellis of the Windsor Spitfires continued to climb the ladder in OHL history on Sunday when he recorded his 300th career point to move into third place in all-time scoring among OHL defencemen. Ellis scored two goals against the Sudbury Wolves and was named third star despite a 6-5 overtime loss. His 300th career point was his 21st goal of the season set up by Zack Kassian at 14:50 of the first period.
Ellis, a 20-year-old from Freelton, ON, is playing in his fourth OHL season and was selected by the Nashville Predators in the first round of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft and currently leads all OHL defencemen with 87 points in 50 games.
With 300 points he passes former Kitchener Ranger Andre Benoit who recorded 299 career points from 2000-05. Rick Corriveau produced 329 career points from 1987-92 playing four seasons with the London Knights and one with the Niagara Falls Thunder. Denis Potvin still holds the record with 330 career points by an OHL blueliner in his five full seasons with the Ottawa 67’s from 1968-73.
Ellis also took over second place on the franchise scoring list trailing only Bill Bowler who scored 467 points for the Windsor Spitfires in four seasons from 1991-95.
