Wolves’ Carson sets new franchise games played record
Sudbury Wolves captain Macauley Carson etched his name in the franchise record books on Thursday, competing in his 302nd career regular season contests in front of a hometown crowd in Barrie.
The Wolves skated to an 8-3 win, stretching their Central Division lead to eight points over the second place Colts as Carson surpassed Jamie Matthews (1989-94) for most career games played in Wolves franchise history.

“It’s one thing to have the opportunity to be able to set a new franchise record, and then its icing on the cake to be able to do it in my hometown in front of friends and family,” Carson told Josh Sweetland on the OHL This Week Podcast. “People that I grew up in the community with, mentors and some of my coaches will be there and it’s a special night for me.”
Originally Sudbury’s second round (41st overall) pick in the 2015 OHL Priority Selection from the Barrie Colts Minor Midgets, the fifth-year veteran has 49 points (21-28–49) over 61 games this season. He’s accumulated 181 points (84-97–181) over 302 regular season games dating back to 2015-16 and chipped in with six points (4-2–6) over 14 career playoff contests.
The soon-to-be 21-year-old from Midhurst, Ont. attended rookie camp with the New York Rangers last September.
