A point shot that found its way to the top corner was the difference between the Whitby Wildcats and the Thunder Bay Kings.
Both teams entered the Thursday morning game looking for their second win of the tournament.
With the game tied 1-1 in the third period, Whitby defencemen Matthew Bumstead fired a one-timer from the point that found its way to the top corner.
The goal held up for the game winning goal to give Whitby a 2-1 victory..
“That wasn’t the best shot I’ve ever taken it was fluttering, but it found its way through,” said Bumstead following the game, but he noted his slap shot is one of his best assets. “I try to use it as best as I can when I can.”

Game 22: Guelph Gryphons 2 vs. Southern Tier Admirals 1
A bounce back performance was exactly what the Guelph Gryphons got Thursday morning against the Southern Tier Admirals.
Guelph rebounded from their first loss of the tournament Wednesday night to defeat Southern Tier 2-1.
The Gryphons and Admirals are familiar foes, both being from the OMHA, and Gryphons forward Noah Cameron believed that helped his team.
“We knew just to play our game, work hard and have a high intensity to beat them,” said Cameron who has enjoyed playing in an underdog position as a wild card team. “I like that role because no teams expect us to come out on top.”
The Gryphons Solomon Bussey scored his third goal of the tournament to open the scoring in the first period.
Mitchell Mendonca tied the game for the Admirals on the powerplay late in the first period, however Guelph capitalized on a man-advantage of their own for the game winning goal off the stick of Austen Keating in the second period.

Sam Field and Gary Prince provided the goals for Elite Hockey in the defeat. Field was Elite’s player of the game.
Both teams now have records of 1-2 with one round-robin game remaining.

Breton was named player of the game for Ottawa Valley after a great performance at both ends of the rink.
“We just have to always start in the defensive zone and coach stresses that,” said Breton. “The defensive zone wins games, so it starts with defensive positioning and then we get offense from there.”

“I am always trying to help my team, whether it’s scoring goals or doing whatever it takes,” said Saigeon. “We lost a close one to Ottawa and we wanted that one back, but we just tried to bounce back and we did it well.”
Saigeon also had an assist to go with his two goals and now has four goals and three assists in three games.

Bitten was named the 67’s player of the game with the Rangers’ honours going to netminder Matthew Petizian.
Ottawa has put themselves in sole posession of first place in Division 1 with a 3-0 record. With the loss, North York is now 1-2.
