2003 NHL Entry Draft Results
Nashville, TN – The 2003 NHL Entry Draft was completed today with rounds four through nine at the Gaylord Entertainment Centre.
44 Ontario Hockey League players were selected in the nine-round draft, including Eric Staal of the Peterborough Petes, who was the second overall pick of the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday and Nathan Horton of the Oshawa Generals, who went third overall to the FLorida Panthers. It was the most OHL players selected in the draft since 1999 when 52 OHL’ers were selected.
Aaron Dawson of the Peterborough Petes was the first player selected on Sunday when Carolina used the 102nd overall pick to claim the 6’4″ defenceman. Corey Locke (pictured) of the Ottawa 67’s, the Red Tilson Trophy winner and CHL Player of the Year, was also selected in the fourth round, 113th overall, by the Montreal Canadiens.
The Peterborough Petes, Sarnia Sting and Toronto St. Michael’s Majors led the way for
the OHL with five players selected in the draft. The Brampton Battalion and London Knights each had four players selected.
