Wolves Wrap Up Tough Weekend at Home Against IceDogs
The Sudbury Wolves wrapped up a double header weekend against their division rivals, the Niagara IceDogs Sunday afternoon. Both teams came out strong playing a physical game. Blake Murray tallied the lone goal for the Wolves with Kirill Nizhnikov and David Levin picking up the assists. Despite all efforts, the IceDogs clinched the two points with a final score of 5-1.
Four minutes into the first period, Daniel Bukac put the IceDogs on the board leaving the Wolves to trail 1-0. At the half-way mark, Blake Murray responded by recording his third goal of the season to tie the game at one goal apiece. In the second half of the first period, Philip Tomasino and Oliver Castleman each notched a goal, giving the IceDogs a two goal lead. Shots on goal after the first were 18-9 in favour of the IceDogs.
Early in the second, the IceDogs were able to score quick with Ivan Lodnia notching in a goal three minutes in. The Wolves put on the pressure challenging the IceDogs and made the game more physical. Darian Pilon and Johnathon Schaefer dropped the gloves late in the second. The IceDogs had a bigger bite and Castleman tallied one more goal before the end of period, scoring his second of the night to give the IceDogs a 5-1 lead.
Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen stood strong in the crease in the third period, giving the IceDogs a tough time and allowing in no goals. Unfortunately, the Wolves were unable to match the IceDogs on the scoreboard as they Wolves fell by a 5-1 final to the visitors. Final shots on goal were 38 to 35 in favour of the IceDogs.
The Wolves return to action Friday, October 19th, 2018 at the Sudbury Community Arena where they will host the Hamilton Bulldogs to open a double header weekend.
