Wolves Welcome 2025 OHL Priority Selection Class
The 2025 OHL Priority Selection has concluded, with the Sudbury Wolves welcoming sixteen prospects to the organization.
Sudbury entered the draft with the 11th overall pick of the first round, selecting centre Brayden Bennett from the Toronto Titans U16 AAA. The 6’0, 188lbs forward from Ottawa, Ontario will be a welcome addition to a Wolves lineup that identifies as a hardworking group. Brayden was a gamebreaker for the Titans before having his season cut short with a broken collarbone in mid-January. Brayden finished his regular season with the Titans recording 10 goals and 11 assists for 21 points in 24 games. Brayden is a player with elite speed, relentless compete, and excellent offensive instincts. He plays Game 1 to Game 68 with the same level of relentless intensity to win.
The Wolves entered the second round with back-to-back selections, with the 37th and 38th overall picks. With the 37th overall selection, the Wolves drafted centreman Vladimir Provorov from the New Jersey Rockets 16U AAA. Born in Yaroslavl, Russia, Vladimir is the younger brother of former Brandon Wheat King and current Columbus Blue Jacket Ivan Provorov. Vladimir has played in New Jersey for the past two seasons, including a 2024/25 season that saw him produce 36 goals and 91 assists for 127 points in 75 games. Vladimir is a highly skilled centre who displays exceptional puck skills and elite level hockey sense. He can handle the puck in tight areas and create offensive opportunities for his teammates. His level of deception is elite both with his ability to change pace and overall spatial awareness on the ice.
Following up on their first 2nd round selection, the Wolves drafted Parker Smith with the 38th overall selection. Parker is a left-handed left wing from the Waterloo Wolves U16 AAA. The 5’10, 161lbs winger from Waterloo, Ontario produced 44 points (20 goals and 24 assists) in 28 regular season games for Waterloo. In the playoffs, his game went to another level, notching seven goals and adding five assists in just six games. Parker is a great goal scoring winger who plays a physical game and loves getting under the skin of the opposition. He plays with a relentless will factor and compete level that translates both on and off the scoresheet.
With no third round pick, this concluded Day 1 of the draft. The Wolves entered Day 2 of the draft with an early selection, taking goaltender Owen Leonard with the 66th overall pick of the fourth round. Leonard, a 6’1 165lbs left-handed catching goaltender from the Toronto Titans U16 AAA, joins teammate Brayden Bennett with the Wolves organization. Leonard concluded his Titans career with a 34-9-1 record, including a 1.51 GAA and a 0.926 SV%. The Toronto, Ontario native is exceptionally agile and makes acrobatic saves. He is powerful laterally and moves from post-to-post with ease. He stays calm under pressure and is excellent at cutting down angles, along with excellent ability to challenge shooters.
“We are very pleased with our draft,” disclosed Wolves Vice President and General Manager Rob Papineau. “We targeted speed and skill and hockey sense in every round. We added 9 very skilled forwards and 5 very smart and skilled defencemen. In net, we added two goalies who have been major contributors to their team’s success last year. All the players had a big impact on the teams they played for last season. This was the first draft following the new rules that came into effect last fall and we are excited to welcome all 16 players and their families to the Sudbury Wolves”.
