Wolves Take 3-0 Series Lead Over Steelheads
The Sudbury Wolves made the trip to Mississauga Sunday as they continued their hunt in their third playoff game in as many days. The Wolves were a force, scoring 5 goals to catch their prey and solidify a 5-3 win. Quinton Byfield scored two while David Levin, Blake Murray and Cole Candella each scored one to put Game #3 in the win column. Final shots on goal were 42-41 in favour of Mississauga.
In the opening frame, David Levin was quick to put the Wolves up on the board just under 3 minutes in. He took a pass from Shane Bulitka and found the open net with a wrist shot to beat Jacob Ingham top corner glove side. Not long after, Cole Schwindt put the Steelheads on the board tying the game up at one goal apiece. Just under the 10 minute mark of the period, Liam Ham gave Mississauga the upper hand when he beat Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen glove side to make it 2-1. Quinton Byfield then replied by putting one in past Ingham from the point to force a tie game at 2.
In the second period, the Wolves came out hungry scoring two goals. Quinton Byfield came in hot with a pass from Blake Murray and fired the puck into the open net on Ingham’s blocker side. Jack Thompson with a nice set up, sent it over to Blake Murray who ripped in a one-timer to put the Wolves up 4-2. With under 5 minutes remaining in the period, Nick McHugh cut the Wolves lead by one to make it a one goal game.
In the final frame, the Wolves were able to hold onto their lead keeping the score at 4-3. In the final two minutes, Ingham headed to the Mississauga bench for the extra attacker. Cole Candella took in a pass off the face-off and read the boards perfectly as the puck got redirected into the empty net to finalize the win with a final score of 5-3. Luukkonen had a strong performance in net for the Wolves as he stood tall making 39 saves on 42 shots.
