Wolves Host Doubleheader Weekend with Indigenous Night Friday and Women in Sports Game Sunday
(Greater Sudbury, ON) – The Sudbury Wolves are back on home ice this weekend for a thrilling doubleheader. The team will face off against the North Bay Battalion on Friday, January 31st at 7:05 p.m. and the Brantford Bulldogs on Sunday, February 2nd at 2:05 p.m.
Currently sitting 3rd in the Central Division with a record of 22-17-8-0, the Wolves are determined to secure two important wins. Both games will highlight special community initiatives designed to bring fans together and raise awareness for key causes.
Friday night’s game will mark the third annual Indigenous Celebration Game at the Sudbury Arena, made possible through a partnership with Ngo Dwe Waanzizjik (Urban Indigenous Sacred Circle) and Shkagamik-Kwe Health Centre (SKHC). The Wolves will wear unique Indigenous-themed jerseys designed by Michael Cywink, an artist from Whitefish River First Nation (Birch Island), with creative direction provided by Melanie Laquerre, SKHC’s Creative Director.
The jerseys, celebrating Indigenous culture and heritage, will be available for auction during and after the game. Proceeds from the auction will go to support Indigenous youth in sports and mental wellness. Fans can participate in the auction here: Wolves Jersey Auction. For more details on the jersey unveiling and the collaboration, visit the full announcement: Wolves Indigenous Game Announcement.
Sunday’s game will focus on mental health awareness in partnership with the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Sudbury Manitoulin branch presented by Syngenta and Grain Farmers of Ontario. This mental health awareness game is part of the Sudbury Wolves ongoing partnership with CMHA Sudbury Manitoulin and its Talk Today program. The game will also celebrate National Women and Girls in Sports Day with a special pre-game ceremony. CMHA Sudbury will have a kiosk in the concourse, offering information on mental health and the chance to win signed merchandise including a team signed jersey. Fans can also take part in the Chuck-a-Puck competition, with proceeds supporting CMHA Sudbury Manitoulin.
After Sunday’s game, fans will have the opportunity to skate with the team as part of Jr. Wolves Sunday. The team’s dressing room will be open for fans to gear up, and the benches will be available once the ice is ready.
