Wolves Host Colts for Home Opener
(GREATER SUDBURY, ON) The Sudbury Wolves are BACK and set to embark on their 50th anniversary season of Wolves Hockey! The Sudbury Wolves open their 2022-2023 regular season campaign by welcoming division rivals Barrie Colts to the arena Friday night. Puck drop is at 7:05pm
The Wolves finished their pre-season with a winning record of 3-2-0-0 with a number of Wolves leading the League in several categories. Goaltender Joe Ranger lead the league through pre-season with 2 shutouts and sits second in save percentage with 0.938. Michael Derbidge ranks second in the league for most goals (5) and Plus/Minus (+7).
The Wolves shift their focus to opening their regular season this Friday night against the Barrie Colts who finished their pre-season with a record 4-1-0-1. Friday’s game is sponsored by Desjardins who will be on-hand with prizes and giveaways for lucky fans. Friday is also the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation/Orange Shirt Day and prior to the game, the Wolves, in partnership with the N’Swakamok Native Friendship Centre and Shkagamik-Kwe Health Centre, will be holding a pre-game ceremony to acknowledge this day as we collectively navigate the truth on our shared healing journey. We encourage all fans to wear orange shirts to this game in support as we help light the city in orange Friday.
The Colts’ roster features seven NHL prospects including Ethan Cardwell (SJ), Hunter Haight (MIN), Declan McDonnelll (TB), Ethan Vierling (NYR), Brandt Clarke (LA), Arthur Cholach (VGK) and Anson Thornton (ARI).
The Wolves’ roster features three NHL prospects including forward David Goyette (SEA) and defensemen Jacob Holmes (DAL) and Nolan Collins (PIT). The 2021 first overall pick in the OHL Priority Selection, Quentin Musty looks to take his game to the next level after putting up 12 goals and 19 assists for 31 points in 50 games last season. In two pre-season games, Musty found himself on the scoresheet with one goal and two assists. Sudbury’s own Alex Pharand selected 15th overall in the 2021 OHL Draft also looks to make his mark going into his NHL Draft year.
Tickets are on-sale now for Friday’s match-up at greatersudbury.ca/tickets and at the Sudbury Arena Box Office. The Sudbury Arena Box Office will be open Monday to Thursday from Noon to 4pm and Friday from 9am until the end of the second intermission. Get your tickets early! Please note, tickets available online are the same price as the box office.
Following Friday’s home game, the Wolves hit the road to travel to Mississauga on Sunday to face another division rival, this time, the Mississauga Steelheads at 2pm.
