Wolves Face QMJHL Club Rouyn-Noranda in Interleague Play
(Greater Sudbury, ON) – The 2025/26 OHL season will provide a first in franchise history for the Sudbury Wolves, as they will play the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies of the QMJHL in two regular season interleague games. The Wolves join the Ottawa 67’s from the OHL in hosting interleague games this season, as they will be playing a home-and-home with the Gatineau Olympiques of the QMJHL.
“We are excited to be one of the teams that is able to offer our fans interleague play,” expressed Rob Papineau, Vice President and General Manager of the Sudbury Wolves. “Rouyn has been a very strong team in the QMJHL and we have had a great relationship with them prior to COVID where we played them each season in an exhibition game in Timmins, which we also look forward to bring back to the hockey fans in Timmins”.
The Rouyn-Noranda Huskies will be at the Sudbury Community Arena on Sunday, January 18th, with the return game being the following Sunday, January 25th in Rouyn-Noranda. Both interleague games will be official 2025/26 OHL regular season games, with both games contributing towards the OHL and QMJHL league standings respectively. The Huskies enter the 2025/26 season after finishing second in the Western Conference, losing in the third round to the eventual QMJHL champions, the Moncton Wildcats.
Being roughly four hours apart, Sudbury and Rouyn-Noranda already have a history. Most recently, the two played each other in a 2019 pre-season game, taking place at the McIntyre Community Centre in Timmins. Wolves forwards Quinton Byfield and Shane Bulitka had identical two-goal, two-assist efforts in a 7-2 win. The two clubs also met the year before for a pre-season matchup, with Byfield recording a goal and three assists in a 7-6 shootout win.
