Wolves Acquire Donovan McCoy
(Greater Sudbury, ON) The Sudbury Wolves announce that they have acquired 19-year-old defenceman, Donovan McCoy from the Peterborough Petes in exchange for forward, Caden Taylor and a conditional fourth round draft pick in 2027.
“We are really excited to add Donovan to the Sudbury Wolves,” said Sudbury Wolves VP & General Manager Rob Papineau. “His leadership and experience as a captain and OHL champion will help bring our hockey team to the next level. He was a big piece of the Petes championship squad and a guy we have been targeting all season. Adding a player like Donovan comes at a price. Caden is a great young player but in our window, we feel that this move improves our hockey team today. We wish Caden success and welcome Donovan to Sudbury.”
Donovan from Belleville, ON., is a 6’1, 200 lbs., right-shot defender who was drafted by the Petes’ 15th overall in the 2020 OHL Priority Selection. During the 2022-23 season Donovan was part of the Peterborough team that hoisted the J.Ross Robertson Cup as OHL Champions. During that season Donovan appeared in 65 games recording 13-points and played 22 post-season games where he notched two goals, eight assists good for 10 points. Prior to this season Donavan was invited to Calgary Flames development camp. Donovan was also appointed to lead the Petes’ as the captain this season. Donovan currently has 21 points (6G-15A) and 37 penalty minutes through 37 games.
