Donovan McCoy Named Wolves Captain
(Greater Sudbury, ON) – The Sudbury Wolves proudly announce Donovan McCoy as the 54th captain in franchise history, ahead of their upcoming season opener. Donovan will be accompanied by Kocha Delic, Alex Pharand, Nick DeAngelis, and Quentin Musty as part of our leadership group for the 2024-2025 season.
“Being named captain of such a historic team like the Wolves is a huge honour,” McCoy said about being named captain. “It’s a privilege to be able to lead the team not only on the ice but off the ice and in the community as well.”
Since joining the Wolves on January 8th, 2024, Donovan McCoy has played 30 regular season games and 9 postseason games, amassing a total of 20 points (3G-17A). Off the ice, McCoy serves as a Hockey Gives Blood ambassador and received the 2023-24 Dayna Brons Honorary Award from Canadian Blood Services. Recently, he participated in the Pittsburgh Penguins’ 2024 development and training camps.

His leadership, discipline, and accountability, along with his positive attitude on and off the ice, make him an exceptional team player. He has experience as an assistant captain on an OHL championship-winning team and as a captain the following season. He truly is a players’ player, and we believe his leadership will help guide our team towards the goals we’ve set for this season.”
Hailing from Belleville, ON, Donovan McCoy stands 6’1” tall, weighs 205 lbs., and plays as a right-shot defender. He was drafted 15th overall by the Peterborough Petes in the 2020 OHL Priority Selection. McCoy contributed significantly as an assistant captain to the Petes’ 2022-23 season, helping them secure the J.Ross Robertson Cup as OHL Champions. Before joining the Wolves, he served as captain for the Petes during the 2023-24 season.
