The draft is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. on Friday in Buffalo.<\/p>\n

Some Brantford Bulldogs players and staff members made a trip across the border for the big night.<\/p>\n

Caleb Malhotra, a centre for the team, is a top-ranked prospect.<\/p>\n

\u201cA very special day for our organization, being the second year in a row that we are hopefully going to have a top ten NHL pick and third year in a row a first round NHL draft pick,\u201d Spencer Hyman, vice president and general manager of the Brantford Bulldogs, said. \u201cWe\u2019re just so incredibly proud of Caleb.\u201d<\/p>\n

Malhotra finished the OHL season with 84 points.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhatever club ends up drafting him is going to be getting an unbelievable person first, and an unbelievable player as well,\u201d Hyman said.<\/p>\n

The Guelph Storm is also hoping to hear one of their players get the nod, despite only recently acquiring Ryan Roobroeck from the Niagara Ice Dogs.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe has the entire package. He\u2019s got a bright future ahead of him,\u201d George Burnett, general manager of the Guelph Storm, said. \u201cWe\u2019re so excited that we have a chance to see him for a full season here with the special opportunity that we have ahead.\u201d<\/p>\n

The OHL is typically well represented during the draft.<\/p>\n

New for this year\u2019s draft, 20-year-old import players will be eligible to be selected in any round, while 16-year-old import players may only be selected in the first round.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The Oshawa Generals of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) hold the first overall pick in the 2026 CHL Import Draft, set for Tuesday, June 30, at 11 a.m. ET. The Baie-Comeau Drakkar of the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) currently hold the No. 2 selection, while the Lethbridge Hurricanes of the Western Hockey League (WHL) own the third overall pick. The Guelph Storm of the OHL, hosts of the 2027 Memorial Cup presented by Kubota, round out the top four after moving up in the draft order last week through a trade with the Erie Otters (<\/span>see the complete draft order below<\/i><\/b>).<\/span><\/p>\n

For the second straight year, the CHL Import Draft will consist of three rounds as the CHL enters its second season with three import player spots available on each club\u2019s roster. Under updated rules for the 2026 CHL Import Draft, 20-year-old import players will be eligible to be selected in any round, while 16-year-old import players may also be selected, but only in the first round. CHL clubs may carry a maximum of one 16-year-old import player per season, and that player cannot be traded or replaced by another import player during his 16-year-old season. If a 16-year-old import player is released to another level of hockey during the regular season or deleted from a club\u2019s roster, that club will be limited to two import players for the remainder of the regular season and playoffs. CHL clubs have been permitted to trade selections in the 2027 CHL Import Draft since May 5, 2026, while 2026 selections may continue to be traded until Monday, June 29.<\/span><\/p>\n

For the first time in the history of the CHL Import Draft, the Oshawa Generals hold the first overall pick. It also marks the first time the Generals have held a top-five selection at the event, with their only previous top-10 pick coming in 2010 when they chose Danish forward Nicklas Jensen eighth overall. Last year, Oshawa selected <\/span>Onni Kalto<\/span><\/a> 41st overall with its first pick in the 2025 CHL Import Draft, and the Finnish forward went on to become one of four Generals skaters to reach the 20-goal plateau, finishing with 29 points over 62 games during the 2025-26 season. Oshawa\u2019s third-round pick, <\/span>Vadim Smirnov<\/span><\/a>, also contributed 21 points, including 10 goals, across 61 contests. Over the years, the Generals have developed several notable import talents, including Swedish forward Tobias Lindberg, who helped Oshawa capture both the OHL Championship and Memorial Cup in 2015, Danish first-round NHL Draft pick Nicklas Jensen, Czech defenceman Jan Snopek, and recent Finnish standout Rasmus Kumpulainen.<\/span><\/p>\n

Although the Baie-Comeau Drakkar have twice selected first overall in the history of the CHL Import Draft, 2026 marks the first time the club has held the No. 2 pick at the event. At last year\u2019s CHL Import Draft, the Drakkar used their first-round pick, 36th overall, to select Italian forward <\/span>Jacopo De Luca<\/span><\/a>, who became just the seventh Italian player ever chosen in the history of the draft. De Luca went on to record 25 points in 56 games during the 2025-26 season, finishing fifth in team scoring, while third-round pick <\/span>Filip Vlk<\/span><\/a> of Czechia added seven goals and seven assists over 55 contests. Baie-Comeau has also built a strong track record of developing talent through the CHL Import Draft, highlighted by Russian forwards Valentin Zykov and Ivan Chekhovich, who both delivered high-end offensive seasons with the Drakkar, along with Czech forward Matyas Melovsky, a 200-point producer during his time in Baie-Comeau, and Latvian defenceman Niks Fenenko, a steady presence on the club\u2019s blue line over three seasons.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Lethbridge Hurricanes hold the third overall pick of the 2026 CHL Import Draft, marking the second time in franchise history they have held the No. 3 selection and the third time they have owned a top-three pick at the event. At last year\u2019s draft, the Hurricanes selected Czech defenceman <\/span>Tomas Malinek<\/span><\/a> in the second round, and he went on to record six points over 59 games during the 2025-26 season. Lethbridge also added Lithuanian forward <\/span>Mykolas Skadauskas<\/span><\/a>, one of just four Lithuanian players ever selected in the CHL Import Draft and one of the first two taken in 17 years, who registered six assists across 34 regular-season games. Over the years, the Hurricanes have successfully used the CHL Import Draft to add players who made an immediate impact in Lethbridge and carried that success beyond the WHL, from Slovak forward Tomas Kopecky and Swiss defenceman Luca Sbisa to Finnish goaltender Juha Metsola, who helped backstop the club to the 2008 WHL Championship Series.<\/span><\/p>\n

The CHL Import Draft has long served as an important pathway for international players to develop in the WHL, OHL, and QMJHL before later hearing their names called at the NHL Draft. At the 2025 NHL Draft in Los Angeles, <\/span>six CHL players selected through the CHL Import Draft were chosen by NHL clubs<\/span><\/a>: <\/span>Radim Mrtka<\/span><\/a> (Seattle Thunderbirds, WHL \/ Buffalo Sabres), <\/span>Max P\u0161eni\u010dka<\/span><\/a> (Portland Winterhawks, WHL \/ Utah Mammoth), <\/span>Julius Sumpf<\/span><\/a> (Moncton Wildcats, QMJHL \/ Chicago Blackhawks), <\/span>David Lewandowski<\/span><\/a> (Saskatoon Blades, WHL \/\u00a0 Edmonton Oilers), <\/span>Carlos H\u00e4ndel<\/span><\/a> (Halifax Mooseheads, QMJHL \/\u00a0 Montr\u00e9al Canadiens), and <\/span>Filip Ekberg<\/span><\/a> (Ottawa 67\u2019s, OHL \/ Carolina Hurricanes).<\/span><\/p>\n

The event has also helped bring a number of future NHL standouts to the CHL, including <\/span>Leon Draisaitl<\/b> (Prince Albert Raiders \/ WHL),<\/span> Zdeno Chara<\/b> (Prince George Cougars \/ WHL), <\/span>Marian Hossa<\/b> (Portland Winterhawks \/ WHL), <\/span>Mikael Backlund<\/b> (Kelowna Rockets \/ WHL), <\/span>Oliver Bjorkstrand <\/b>(Portland Winterhawks \/ WHL), <\/span>Gabriel Landeskog <\/b>(Kitchener Rangers \/ OHL), <\/span>Nikita Zadorov <\/b>(London Knights \/ OHL), <\/span>Rasmus Andersson<\/b> (Barrie Colts \/ OHL), <\/span>Olli M\u00e4\u00e4tt\u00e4<\/b> (London Knights \/ OHL), <\/span>Alexander Radulov<\/b> (Qu\u00e9bec Remparts \/ QMJHL), <\/span>David Krejci <\/b>(Gatineau Olympiques \/ QMJHL), and<\/span> Nico Hischier <\/b>(Halifax Mooseheads \/ QMJHL). That list also includes two-time Hart Trophy winner <\/span>Nikita Kucherov <\/b>(Rouyn-Noranda Huskies \/ QMJHL), who captured the award for the second time in his career during the 2025-26 season, as well as recent 2026 Stanley Cup champions<\/span> Andrei Svechnikov<\/b> (Barrie Colts \/ OHL) and <\/span>Nikolaj Ehlers<\/b> (Halifax Mooseheads \/ QMJHL), who helped the Carolina Hurricanes capture their second championship in franchise history.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Since the first CHL Import Draft was held in 1992, over 2,310 players from outside of Canada and the United States have been selected at this annual event.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

General Manager George Burnett announced today that the Guelph Storm have acquired forward Ryan Roobroeck from the Niagara IceDogs in exchange for forward Wil McFadden, forward Layne Gallacher, a 3rd <\/sup>round pick (Ottawa) in 2029, a 4th round pick (Guelph) in 2030, and a 5th<\/sup> round pick (Guelph) in the 2027 OHL Priority Selection.<\/p>\n

\u201cRyan is amongst the elite players in his age group,\u201d said George Burnett. \u201cHis combination of size, skill, power, and scoring ability fills a very important role for our club and makes him a great fit for our program. We are happy to welcome Ryan and his family to the Guelph Storm.\u201d<\/p>\n

The highly touted 2026 NHL Draft Prospect was originally selected in the first round (2nd\u00a0overall) by the IceDogs in the 2023 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection. In three seasons in the OHL, the 6-foot-4, 215 lbs forward has recorded 99 goals and 97 assists for 196 points in 176 regular season games. Roobroeck has added another 6 points (3 goals and 3 assists) in 5 career OHL playoff games. Roobroeck\u2019s 99 career OHL goals leads all 2007-born players over the last three seasons.<\/p>\n

The London, ON native represented his country twice on the world stage – once at the 2023 U17 World Hockey Challenge and again at the 2025 IIHF U18 World Championships. At the 2025 U18 tournament, Roobroeck won gold with current Storm players Tyler Hopkins, Ethan Czata, and Head Coach Cory Stillman recording four goals and five assists for nine points in seven games.<\/p>\n

Former Ottawa 67’s star, current Guelph Storm skills and development coach, and one of the most accomplished players in Ontario Hockey League history, Corey Locke, has been recognized with the 2026 OMHA Excellence in Development Award.<\/span><\/p>\n

Currently serving as Executive Director of the Burlington Eagles Elite program and as a development coach with the Guelph Storm, Locke has become a respected leader in player development, guiding young athletes on and off the ice while drawing on a hockey career that spanned more than two decades.<\/span><\/p>\n

“I’ve been working with Corey for over five years now, and I don’t think we could have brought a better guy into the organization to run and lead our development,” said Burlington Eagles Director of Hockey Justin Howard.<\/span><\/p>\n

“I think it’s what makes Corey the way he is. It’s that connection with each individual and each individual’s family. They put trust in him to bring them along, and as an organization, we put the trust in him to help those players develop.”<\/span><\/p>\n

One of the most dominant offensive players the OHL has ever seen, Locke spent three seasons with the Ottawa 67’s from 2001-04. During the 2002-03 campaign, he produced an astounding 151 points (63-88-151) in just 66 regular-season games. Over 186 career regular-season contests, he amassed 312 points (132-180-312), cementing his place among the league’s all-time greats.<\/span><\/p>\n

His remarkable junior career earned him numerous accolades, including two Eddie Powers Memorial Trophies as the OHL’s leading scorer, two Red Tilson Trophies as OHL Most Outstanding Player, two OHL goal-scoring titles, an OHL assists title, CHL Top Scorer honours and CHL Player of the Year recognition.<\/span><\/p>\n

Following his junior career, Locke was selected 113th overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2003 NHL Draft. He appeared in nine NHL games, recording one assist, before establishing himself as one of the premier players in the American Hockey League.<\/span><\/p>\n

Locke captured the Calder Cup twice during his professional career, first with the Hamilton Bulldogs in 2007 and later with the Binghamton Senators in 2011. He remains the Bulldogs’ franchise leader in career goals, assists and points.<\/span><\/p>\n

His finest professional season came in 2010-11 when he led the AHL with 86 points (21-65-86) while helping Binghamton capture the Calder Cup championship. Locke’s outstanding campaign earned him both the Les Cunningham Award as league MVP and the John B. Sollenberger Trophy as the AHL’s leading scorer.<\/span><\/p>\n

After concluding his playing career in Europe, Locke transitioned into coaching and player development, where he has continued to make a lasting impact.<\/span><\/p>\n

“When you see Corey at the rink, the players just kind of swarm around him, and he is so approachable,” said Burlington Eagles Vice President Jean Longfield. “He’s joking with them and having fun with them. He really relates to them, and they sense that. He’s really got a magical touch.”<\/span><\/p>\n
