Overage forward Ethan Miedema has committed to Bemidji State University for the 2026-2027 season.<\/h3>\n

Miedema, a native of Cobourg, Ont., was selected fourth overall by the Windsor Spitfires in the 2021 OHL Priority Selection. He played parts of two seasons with the Spitfires before being traded to the Eastern Conference Kingston Frontenacs. Between the two teams, Miedema appeared in 267 games, amassing 188 points.<\/p>\n

He was traded to the Storm during the 2025 off-season and quickly became an integral member of the team. He appeared in all 68 games, tallying 47 points (25-22-47). On Friday, March 20th, Ethan etched his name into the Ontario Hockey League history books after playing in his 334th game, putting him third in all-time regular-season games played. The following night, he registered his 100th OHL goal in what would be his final regular-season game as the team fell to the Erie Otters.<\/p>\n

Bemidji State University is a public university located in Bemidji, Minnesota. Their Men\u2019s Hockey team, the Beavers, are an NCAA Division 1 program that competes in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association conference.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Following the conclusion of the 2026 OHL Playoffs, Quinn Beauchesne signed an Amateur Try-Out agreement with the Wilkes-Barre\/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League.<\/p>\n

The Ottawa, Ont., native was the 1st round, 14th overall selection by the Storm in the 2023 OHL Priority Selection. Through three seasons in the Ontario Hockey League, Quinn has appeared in 138 games, registering 66 points (15-51-66). Internationally, Beauchesne has represented Canada at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, where he donned the \u2018C\u2019 for Canada Red. He won gold at both the 2024 Hlinka Gretzky Cup and the 2025 IIHF U18 Worlds.<\/p>\n

Following the conclusion of the 2026 OHL Playoffs, Grant Spada and Tyler Hopkins each signed amateur tryout agreements with the American Hockey League affiliates of their respective NHL teams.<\/p>\n

Blueliner Grant Spada was selected by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 7th round of the 2025 NHL Entry Draft. Following a big off-season, he returned to the Storm, where he quickly proved himself as a key member of the team’s back end, putting up 21 points (6-15-21) in 61 games, adding 75 penalty minutes. At the conclusion of the 2025\/2026 regular season, Grant was named the team’s Most Popular Player as well as the Most Improved Player.<\/p>\n

Centreman Tyler Hopkins came to the Storm through a trade during the 2025\/2026 OHL Trade Deadline. Originally a first-round draft pick of the Kingston Frontenacs, Hopkins put up 89 points through 155 games with the Frontenacs. He was selected in the third round by the Toronto Maple Leafs during the 2025 NHL Entry Draft. The 6’1 forward has skated in 27 games for the Storm, amassing 25 points (13-12-25). His 50 points this season earned him the team’s Top Scorer award.<\/p>\n

Jake grew up with dreams of playing in the Ontario Hockey League, and hearing his name called by the Guelph Storm during the 2020 OHL Priority Selection marked the start of his childhood dreams coming true.<\/p>\n

Jake went on to play his entire OHL career with the Storm, where he suited up in 249 games, amassing 171 points (66-105-171) and adding several team awards during his time. He was drafted 149th overall by the Washington Capitals in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft, ultimately going unsigned, he played his overage season with the Storm. It was during this time that the junior hockey landscape shifted. After more than 40 years, Canadian Hockey League players would now be deemed eligible for NCAA hockey programs following a decision on November 7, 2024. With this, Jake’s plans opened up, and he began to consider new options for his future.<\/p>\n

He ultimately landed at The Ohio State University, where he would have the opportunity to continue his studies while suiting up for the Buckeyes. Playing in his final OHL game on March 23, 2025, and nearly a year later on March 18, 2026, he was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team. He finished his freshman season tied for 10th in the Big 10 in points per game and tied for 9th in points. He finished first in Buckeye team scoring with 37 points (15-22-37) in 37 games.<\/p>\n

He would later be voted the team’s Rookie of the Year and won the Leading Scorer Award after leading the Buckeyes with 22 assists and 37 points, while sharing the goal lead title. He ended his freshman season on a 4-game goal and 7-game point streak. He balanced a busy season while studying business with a focus in financial services.<\/p>\n

A 4th overall pick of the Windsor Spitfires in the 2021 OHL Priority Selection, the 6’4 forward hit the ice for his first-ever regular season game on October 7th, 2021, where he scored his first OHL goal. Ethan suited up for the Spitfires, the Frontenacs, and the Storm during his 5 years, where he appeared in 335 regular-season games, scoring 100 goals and adding 135 helpers for 235 points. He finished his time with 45 games of playoff experience.<\/p>\n

Once the Guelph Storm was awarded the Memorial Cup in November, the rest of the season became about preparing for next year. Now it’s official.<\/p>\n

The Storm’s season came to an end Thursday night at the Sleeman Centre as the Windsor Spitfires capped off a four-game sweep of their opening round playoff series with an 11-3\u00a0win.<\/p>\n

Guelph entered the season as a team with its eyes on finishing in the top four of the conference and earning home ice advantage.<\/p>\n

But once they were guaranteed a spot in next season’s Memorial Cup, it became about making moves focused on next season, not this one. And as four teams above them in the standings all added older, talented and more experienced players, Guelph stuck to its guns, hoping to develop those who would be back next season and trading top players who wouldn’t.<\/p>\n

It was going to take a bit of a miracle to get out of the first round against a very good Windsor team.<\/p>\n

All but one player, overager Ethan Miedema, is eligible to return for Guelph next season and the draft pick piggy bank is overflowing, giving them plenty of assets to acquire the type of players Windsor and other teams picked up this season.<\/p>\n

They played well in spurts this season, a couple of four-game winning streaks, a stretch where they won seven of nine, but as the season sore on and top players were traded, it became harder to compete with the top clubs.<\/p>\n

“It was a lot. When Jetter (Jett Luchanko) and C-Paq (Charlie Paquette) got traded, both captains, it hurts the room. But we have a good group in there, we stuck together and we battled,” said Storm defenceman Grant Spada.<\/p>\n
