Storm announces limited series A Gathering Storm: The Road to the Memorial Cup
The Guelph Storm are excited to pull back the curtain and bring fans on an in-depth look at their 2027 Memorial Cup journey, with a limited documentary series, A Gathering Storm: The Road to the Memorial Cup.
In less than one year, the eyes of the hockey world will turn to Guelph as we host the premier event in junior hockey – the Memorial Cup. For our community, this is more than just a celebration of elite hockey; it serves as the spectacular centrepiece of Guelph’s yearlong bicentennial celebrations as we welcome over 20,000 visitors in the Royal City.
“This is a defining moment for Storm hockey,” said Vice President of Business Operations Matt Newby, “As Guelph celebrates its bicentennial, reaching our 7th Memorial Cup appearance since 1991 is a proud milestone, but this year is about making history of our own. We’re fully committed to giving our loyal fans an extraordinary season and winning our very first Memorial Cup trophy right here on home ice.”
The path of a junior hockey player and the team encompasses so much that the average fan never sees. That journey for many starts on draft day. The first episode of the series will show a behind-the-scenes look at the 2026 OHL Priority Selection, where Declan McNally, Finley Butler, and many more heard their names called by General Manager George Burnett and his scouting staff.
Under the leadership of Burnett and Head Coach Cory Stillman, the Storm set out to build a Memorial Cup-winning lineup, with a number of NHL-drafted talent already in place. Currently, there are 10 members of the 2026/2027 roster who have heard their names called by NHL teams, with several other players entering their NHL draft-eligible year.
Starting in early August, the team will be releasing Episode One of A Gathering Storm: The Road to the Memorial Cup, produced by Lisa Della Mattia and directed by Michael Bremner. Each episode will be released on the team’s YouTube channel as the season unfolds. Ahead of each episode, a limited preview will be released to the team’s social media channels, followed by the full episode just one day later.
