Storm acquire six draft picks for the rights to Declan McNally

General Manager George Burnett has announced today that the club has traded the rights to 2026 first round pick Declan McNally to the Barrie Colts in exchange for a second round pick (Sarnia) in 2028, a second round pick (Barrie) in 2030, a third round pick (Brantford) in 2028, a third round pick (Barrie) in 2030, a fourth round pick (Barrie) in 2029, and a fifth round pick (Sault Ste. Marie) in the 2027 OHL Priority Selection.

Guelph Acquires:

2028 2nd round pick (SAR)
2030 2nd round pick (BAR)
2028 3rd round pick (BFD)
2030 3rd round pick (BAR)
2029 4th round pick (BAR)
2027 5th round pick (SOO)

Barrie Acquires:

D - Declan McNally

As part of completing today's transaction, the Guelph Storm receive a compensatory first-round pick (8th overall) in the 2027 OHL Priority Selection.

Guelph Storm Team Update

General Manager George Burnett and the Guelph Storm were officially made aware that 2026 first round pick Declan McNally would not be reporting to the team’s training camp.

McNally’s representative made it clear ahead of the 2026 OHL Priority Selection that they were concerned about the opportunity in Guelph with the number of returning veteran defensemen the team has assembled for the season. McNally’s representative informed the team of their decision late Monday.

“It is our responsibility to take the best available player at the 7^th overall pick on draft day,” said General Manager George Burnett, “Declan is a talented young hockey player who is ready and capable of playing in the Ontario Hockey League. We will work through the process as outlined by the Ontario Hockey League to determine the next steps.”

The club’s focus remains on the players attending training camp and the pre-season games ahead.

Guelph Storm add Dr. Ashley Taylor (N.D.) to support staff

General Manager George Burnett announced today that Dr. Ashley Taylor (N.D.) will join the club to support the team with nutrition preparation and recovery.

“We are pleased to welcome Ashley to our staff as we expand in this most important area of player support and development,” said General Manager George Burnett. “Ashley will be working directly with our players and billet families while also working closely with our medical team and strength and conditioning.”

Dr. Taylor is a former NCAA student-athlete in track and field at Northern Arizona University, where she graduated in 2018 with a Bachelor of Science. After receiving her undergrad, Dr. Taylor went on to receive her Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine (N.D.) from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine and her Massage Therapy Diploma from the Canadian College of Massage Therapy.

Dr. Taylor is currently working locally as a Naturopathic Doctor and Registered Massage Therapist with Back in Shape and Pursuit Athletic Centre - the Storm’s official training centre.

“I’m looking forward to joining the Guelph Storm and working directly with our players and billet families to build science-based nutrition and lifestyle habits both on and off the ice,” said Dr. Ashley Taylor. “My focus will be on fueling performance and recovery, along with supporting sleep and everyday habits that help these athletes feel and perform their best. Nutrition is one of the most controllable factors in an athlete’s development, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to give our team the support it needs to perform at a high level this season.”

The Guelph Storm 2026 Training Camp got underway on Monday, as 66 players reported to the Sleeman Centre, including potential prospects and free agents, as returning players officially report to camp mid-week. Upon arrival, the players were split into Team Grey and Team Crimson. As prospects and free agents arrived, they took part in medicals, off-ice testing, and a meeting led by General Manager George Burnett. Following lunch, fans and player families were welcomed into the arena with late summer hockey featuring the first scrimmage of camp.
