Storm players ready for 2022 NHL Entry Draft this weekend

The 2022 NHL Entry Draft begins on Thursday, July 7^th at the Bell Centre in Montreal and there are several Storm players that hope to hear their names called over the course of the seven-round event.

Leading the way is Storm’s top-ranked prospect Michael Buchinger. Who enters Thursday night ranked #30 on the NHL Central Scouting Bureau’s North American Skater List. Five other members of the Storm also enter the draft ranked, including Danny Zhilkin (35), Matthew Poitras (45), Jake Karabela (62), Braeden Bowman (194) and goaltender Jacob Oster ranked #18 for North American Goalies. Storm forward Ryan McGuire is also draft-eligible, he finished the season with 5 goals and 4 assists for 9 points in 50 games.

Not drafted last year, three Storm overage players are also eligible. Storm forward Cooper Walker leads the over-age trio with 15 goals, 20 assists for 35 points in 68 games during the 2021-2022 season. Ben McFarlane had 14 goals and 16 assists for 30 points in 66 games. Storm defender and recipient of the Most Improved Player award closed out the 2021-2022 season with 5 goals and 20 assists for 25 points in 65 games.

The Storm enter Thursday night with 77 players selected in the NHL Entry Draft since 1992, with the 1994 NHL Draft being the most prolific with seven players selected. The top selection in franchise history is Drew Doughty who was selected 2^nd overall in 2008. The last Storm player to be drafted was defencemen Daniil Chayka who was taken 38th overall by the Vegas Golden Knights in 2021.
