Storm acquire Thomas Budnick from the Kingston Frontenacs
General Manager George Burnett announced today that the Guelph Storm have acquired veteran left-shot defenseman Thomas Budnick from the Kingston Frontenacs in exchange for a 2nd round pick (SAR) in 2026, a 3rd round pick (KIT) in 2026, and a 3rd round pick (GUE) in the 2027 OHL Priority Selection.
“Tommy plays the game hard, responsibly and is a strong competitor at both ends of the rink,” said George Burnett. “His ability to skate and move the puck effectively combined with his leadership will be a welcome addition to our group.”
The 2004-born blueliner from Petoskey, Michigan was originally selected in the third round, 59th overall, by the Kingston Frontenacs in the 2020 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection. In three seasons in the OHL, all with the Frontenacs, the 6-foot-1, 190lbs defender has recorded 47 points (6 goals, 41 assists) and 154 PIMs in 153 regular season games and has suited up for 11 OHL playoff games. In 29 games so far this season, Budnick has tallied 1 goal, 10 assists, and a plus-9 with 34 PIMs.
Prior to his OHL career, Budnick was a product of the Honeybaked AAA program before joining the Frontenacs.
