Sam Johnston commits to Storm
Guelph, ON – Guelph Storm General Manager George Burnett announced today that 2023 eighth-round selection Sam Johnston has signed an OHL Scholarship and Development Agreement with the hockey club.
The 6’4, 185 lbs forward from Waterdown, Ontario was selected by the Storm 154th overall in last year’s OHL Priority Selection.
“Sam is a power forward who recently had an excellent spring camp after a strong year of development this past season with the Burlington U18 program,” said George Burnett“He continues to progress in all areas of the game and we are looking forward to adding him to our program in Guelph.”
In his OHL draft year, the 2007-born winger produced over a point per game with the Hamilton Jr Bulldogs U16 AAA squad, recording 22 goals and 12 assists for 34 points in 30 games. This past season, Johnston notched 27 goals and 16 assists for 43 points in 32 games for the Burlington Eagles U18 AAA program and helped lead his team to the U18 OMHA Championship Game this spring. The winger also suited up for the OJHL’s Burlington Cougars and GOJHL’s Ayr Centennials during the 2023-24 campaign.
“I am humbled and honoured to have been given this opportunity by such a great organization,” said Johnston. “I know I still have work to do, but I am very excited to get started in Guelph.”
