Jr. Reporter – Sebastian – Friday, January 9
Friday, January 9 BAR @ GUE
On January 9th 2026, I got chosen to be the Guelph Storm Jr. Reporter. The Guelph Storm were playing the Barrie Colts, a tough competitor. The whole thing was an amazing experience.
Before the game, I was able to go inside the penalty box, which was cool. I also got to see all the machines that control the scoreboard, time, etc. While I was in the penalty box, I saw three plaques because three of the players for Barrie went to the World Juniors. Next, I went to the upper level and went into a few of the suites. They were nice. While I was upstairs, I got to see where they commentate the game and where they do the radio and so much more. Finally, before the game started, I got to ride the babyboni with my Dad. It was so fun we did drifts and spins. As an added bonus during the game, I got a free box of pizza and I ate like 5 slices. Unfortunately, the Guelph Storm lost 6-3 but it was an exciting game and Guelph tried to make a comeback in the second period and scored two back-to-back goals. It was exciting.
After the game, I finally got to interview Chris Soares, which was the highlight of the whole experience. I got to ask him three questions.
Since they lost 6-3, I asked him “what do you think went wrong in tonights game” He responded by saying “I don’t think anything went wrong in the game, I think we played well, we had some offensive zone pressure, we had our chances and you know the puck just didn’t want to go in the back of the net, a couple bad bounces and that’s all”.The second question I asked him was “why did you start playing hockey”. He responded by saying “I was sitting on the couch one day and grew up watching the Toronto Maple Leafs and I was watching with my Dad and I told him I wanted to do what they do. The next week I was signed up to play skating and then from there onward I was playing hockey.”
The final question was “Do you by chance have a pregame meal you always eat” He said “pregame meal is always chicken and rice”. Then I told him mine is Subway and he asked what sub, and I told him a meatball marinara sub and he said that was his go to as well!
After the interview, they took a picture of me and him. Before we left, since he is Portuguese, my Dad asked him “Messi or Ronaldo” and of course he said Ronaldo! It was a cool experience and I had a great time. Thanks Guelph Storm!
