Do you have a game day routine, and if so, what is it?
Ethan Miedema: “I do. It’s pretty steep and pretty in-depth. I wake up and go to the gym or skate in the morning, for about 30 minutes to get moving. Normally, after that, I’ll go home and make a big breakfast with eggs and toast. Then I’ll nap for around an hour and a half. On a night like tonight, I like to get to the rink around 4:30 pm. Before I leave for the rink, I’ll eat my pre-game meal, which is chicken and pasta. I warm up, tape my sticks, and drink lots of water, and then do a full warm-up with the guys. Then by that time, it’s 7:00pm, and we’re ready to go.
What would you say are your biggest strengths and weaknesses on the ice, and how are you working to improve on them?
Ethan Miedema: “That’s a really good question. I’d say my strengths are maybe my shot, kind of some of the plays I make, and my game smarts. My weakness would be using my body more effectively since I’m a bigger player. Shielding the puck against smaller players and whatnot.
When did you start playing hockey?
Ethan Miedema: “Honestly, probably Toronto. I’ve watched a couple of their games with one of my cousins. She plays soccer, but she also likes hockey. I don’t get to see her too often, but when I’m home, we’ll watch a game.”
