Jr. Reporter – Levi – Friday, October 3
Friday, October 3rd SAG @ GUE
I got to be the Jr. Storm Reporter for the Guelph Storm vs. Saginaw Spirit game on Friday October 3rd, 2025.
When I got there, my family and I were brought on a tour around the arena. First, we stopped by the penalty box. I met the men that work in there, and they let me press the buttons to control the centre scoreboard. I put up a 7 minute penalty! They showed us the jujubes they keep in there for the players if they’re being good in the penalty box.
Then we saw the room where the scouts hang out. There were snacks in there for them. Then we went upstairs to check out the media room. We saw the spot where they film the game and where the radio announcers sit. We also saw the spot where the game announcer sits and where the person sits that does the music and puts up the videos on the scoreboard.
While we waited for the game to start, we got to have pizza.
The game was really exciting. In the first period there were no goals, but Jovanovski made some amazing saves!
The second period was really exciting. There were 4 goals and still a lot of great saves. Haponenko scored his first OHL goal for the Storm at 17:08 after a great pass by Serlin. At 13:46, on the powerplay, Belahorsky scored his first OHL goal for the Storm on a pass from Stevens! It was a really exciting way for the Storm to take a 2 goal lead. At 12:47, Sima scored for Saginaw then Klevop scored a short-handed goal for Saginaw with 2:04 left in the second period. The score was tied 2-2 after two periods.
There was no scoring in the third, so the game went to overtime. My favourite thing, after a shootout!
At 3:44 of overtime, Serlin made a nice deke, backhand to forehand, and shot it right into the back of the net on Stepan Shurygin’s glove side. Guelph Storm win, 3-2! It was a really exciting game with lots of action. Saginaw had 26 shots on goal and Guelph had 36!
After the game I got to interview one of my favourite players! It was the most exciting part of the night. I interviewed Zach Jovanovski. I wanted to learn more about him, because I am a goalie, too.
Who is your favourite NHL Player and why?
Zach Jovanovski: “My favourite NHL player, probably Marc Andre Fleury, he’s retired now but I always liked him since I was really young.”
If you weren’t a hockey player what sport would you play?
Zach Jovanovski: “Probably golf, I do that a lot in my free time.”
Besides hockey what is a special talent that you have?
Zach Jovanovski: “I can juggle pretty well, but I think that comes with being a goalie.”
