Guelph Storm selects high scoring winger in CHL Import Draft by Tony Saxon
The Guelph Storm landed a prize pick in today’s Canadian Hockey League Import Draft.
After trading up in the draft a few weeks ago to select fourth overall, Guelph chose high scoring Slovakian winger Timothy Kazda.
The six-foot-one, 195-pound right shot turns 18 in October and as a late birthdate is considered a potential first round pick for the 2027 NHL draft.
“He’s the reason we moved up in the draft, he’s a big, strong power forward who can score,” said Storm general manager George Burnett in an interview.
“We’ve been following him for a number of years. He was undecided a year ago at the draft (if he wanted to come to the CHL),” Burnett said, “but he made the decision to come and he’s excited to be heading here.”
Kazda played in the USHL last season with the Chicago Steel, scoring a team-best 22 goals and adding 19 assists in 59 games. Playing for Slovakia at the World Under-18 Challenge he led the tournament in scoring with six goals and six assists in seven games. He was named tournament MVP.
