4,000 fans for first home playoff game means $10,000 donation
The Guelph Storm are set to take on the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds in the first round of the 2024 OH Playoffs. The team is looking for fans to continue to show their support proving success in the stands.
“The Sleeman Centre has a reputation around the league,” said Storm Vice President, Matt Newby. “Always full, always fun, always loud. We need fans to bring that to the playoffs right away because we’ve seen all year that it’s the difference between wins and losses.”
Storm City fans have been a huge part of the success this season, with an average attendance 4,704 fans per game. The energy in the stands helped to elevate the Storm through the regular season with a 20-11-3 record at the Sleeman Centre this year.
“We’re “running it back” because it was such as success last year when we pushed the heavily favoured Sarnia Sting to 6 games, averaged 4,435 fans for our 3 home games and donated a total of $10,000 to five local non-profit organizations.,” said Newby
The team made the same pledge last season, and Storm fans did not disappoint. The first home game of the 2023 OHL Playoffs saw a standing-room-only crowd of 4548. Donations were made to Stanley Stick Hockey, Guelph Humane Society, Food4Kids Guelph, Rose Rattray Early Literacy Fund in support of Guelph Public Library, and the Emergency Response Fundraiser which assisted with those who were displaced by the fire at 148 Wyndham Street ahead of the playoff series.
