Guelph Storm Name Player of the Week

This week’s selection is #29 Ryan MacDonald.

MacDonald got the nod on Friday February 10th against the Kingston Frontenacs – a game that started a three-in-three road swing for the Storm.  MacDonald stood strong between the pipes, battling against former teammate Danny Taylor.  Macker stopped 24 of 26 shots to help his team to an important first win of the weekend.

On Saturday, MacDonald got the night off against Belleville, but was back in the crease for the Storm against Ottawa on Sunday.  MacDonald was huge again stopping 32 of 24 Ottawa shots.  The momentum of great goaltending certainly helped the Storm to its 4-2 win over the 67’s.

Honourable mention for the week goes to #24 Ryan Callahan.  The Storm Captain registered one goal (the overtime winner) and an assist in Guelph’s 3-2 win in Kingston on Friday night.  On Sunday in Ottawa, Callahan’s 38th of the season proved to be the game winner in the Storm’s 4-2 win at the Civic Centre.

The two goals were Callahan’s 37th and 38th of the season – leaving him at 116 for his regular-season career.
He now sits tied for 2nd all-time with Dan Paille & Todd Bertuzzi (116), just four behind Jeff O’Neill (120).  The right wingers 130 career goals (including playoffs) are 7 behind Todd Norman’s record of 137.  Callahan’s 5 short-handed goals leave him 2 behind the single-season record of 7 held by Todd Norman and Joe Gerbe.
