McGuire Scores OT Winner To Cap Guelph’s 4-3 Comeback

Ryan McGuire scored at 3:11 of overtime to finish off the Guelph’s Storm (16-27-4-3) come back win, as they beat the Sarnia Sting (18-22-4-7) 4-3, Wednesday night in front of 3,231, at the Progressive Auto Sales Arena.
The Storm tied the game in the third period with back to back goals, 19 seconds apart, from Lev Katzin at 8:54 and former Sting Max Namestnikov at 9:13. The loss ran Sarnia’s winless streak to four games (0-2-1-1). Matthew Manzia (4th), Tyson Doucette with his team leading 18th and Easton Wainwright, who notched a milestone goal with his career best 14th goal of the season, scored for the Sting.
Alessandro Di lorio had two assists and was named second star.
Beckham Edwards, Ruslan Karimov and Zach Filak contributed with one assist each. Nick Surzycia played a good game in net for Sarnia making 36 saves on 40 shots.
Colin Ellsworth was named as the first star with 32 saves, as Guelph out-shot Sarnia 40-35. Wil McFadden had a pair of assists and was selected as the third star. The Storm went one for four and the Sting one for three on the power-play.
Sarnia will hit the road on Thursday night in Windsor to take on the Spitfires.
Despite being out-shot 16-7 and having to kill off three Guelph power-plays, Sarnia managed to score two goals including a power-play of their own to grab a 2-0 lead after the first twenty minutes of play. Manza opened the scoring early at 2:50 with an even strength goal. Manza came up with the puck along the half boards and then put a shot on goal from a bad angle that beat Ellsworth on the short side. Edwards drew the lone assist. At 10:42 Sarnia scored with the man-advantage. Di lorio driving the play, crossed the blue-line and dropped the puck back to Doucette and he found the back of the net. Di lorio and Karimov picked up the helpers.
Sarnia went one for two on the power-play. The second period saw the two teams trading goals. Sarnia was better on the shot clock 18-13 and their goal came very late with 7.1 seconds left as Wainwright put his stick on the ice and deflected the puck into the net at 19:52. Di lorio sent a pass to Filak and he sent a pass cross ice and Wainwright got his stick on it which went past Ellsworth.
Guelph scored at 8:17 on a goal from Carter Stevens. Wil McFadden and Leo Serlin assisted. Sarnia had a number of chances to score one or two more goals, including Young who went coast to coast with a couple of highlight moves, but he was stopped by Ellsworth. Surzycia also had to make a number of good saves in the period.
