Sting Reel in 2 Points Over Steelheads

The line of Marcus Limpar-Lantz, Ty Voit (Toronto Maple Leafs) and Sasha Pastujov (Anaheim Ducks) combined to score four goals and ten points to power the Sarnia Sting (12-6-3-1) past the Mississauga Steelheads (11-6-3-0) 6-2, in front of 2,287 Wednesday night, at the Progressive Auto Sales Arena.
SWARM WARNING: It’s a rare occurrence in hockey when all three players of the same line are selected as the three stars of the game. That’s exactly what took place tonight as Voit with four assists was selected as the third star, Limpar-Lantz with two goals and an assist-the second star and Pastujov – named the first star after a two goal, three-point effort for the Sting.
Since being acquired last week from the Guelph Storm, Pastujov has scored three goals and nine points in just five games for Sarnia.
Tyson Doucette with his third and Lukas Fischer with his second goal in just four games since joining the Sting also contributed with a goal each.
Zach Filak had a pair of assists, while Cooper Way and Mitch Young added one each. For Young it was his first career point in the OHL and came in just his fifth game since becoming a member of the Sting.
Sarnia scored three goals in the first and third periods and for a second straight tilt, put up six goals in a game. It was the fifth time this season that they have reached that plateau.
The two teams combined to score five goals in the opening period as Sarnia out-shot Mississauga by a 13-8 count. Limpar-Lantz scored twice as the Sting scored the first three goals in a span of 3:23 before the Steelheads came back with two of their own.
Limpar-Lantz opened up the scoring for Sarnia at 5:35, following a sweet three-way passing play that saw Young send a feed to Voit from his back-hand and Voit in turn spotted Limpar-Lantz in front and delivered a perfect pass and he made no mistake putting the puck past the Steelheads goalie Alessio Beglieri.
Doucette jumped on a rebound and beat Beglieri at 7:49 with Zach Filak garnering the only assist which put Sarnia up by a pair of goals. Limpar-Lantz scored his second goal and eighth of the season, scoring top shelf on Beglieri glove side at 8:58.
Owen Beck (Montreal Canadiens) scored an even strength goal and Luca Delbelbelluz (Columbus Blue Jackets) scored a shorthanded goal late in the frame to close the lead to one goal.
Following the offensive explosion in the opening period, the two teams played a much tighter checking game with very few grade A scoring chances in the middle frame and once again Sarnia out-shot Mississauga 12-10.
Sarnia put an end to any hope of a Mississauga comeback with two goals just 50 seconds apart, early in the third period. The Sting overall out-shot the Steelheads 29-28 as Ben Gaudreau (San Jose Sharks) made 26 saves.
