STING POUND SPIRIT – TENUTE HAS ANOTHER CAREER NIGHT
The Sarnia Sting keep on keeping on. The Sting won their 30th game of the season, defeating the visiting Saginaw Spirit by a score of 7 – 3 before 3,895 fans on a Sunday afternoon game at the SSEC. Joey Tenute had another stellar night and continues to keep stock piling points leading the Sting with 3 goals and 1 assist. Tenute leads the Sting with 73 points overall. The Spirit looked like they would give the Sting a tough time, opening the scoring just 3 minutes and 18 seconds into the game on Steve Dix’s goal, his second of the season. Less than a minute later, the Spirit would take a 2 goal lead at 4:05 of the first on Geoff Platt’s goal, his 23rd for a 2-0 Saginaw lead.
The Sting didn’t get on the board until 7:59 into the game and would begin striking back on Joey Tenute’s first of the night, his 24th on the season. Kris Newbury would tie the game at 2-2, just 2 minutes later, a power play goal. The Sting would add two more goals before the first period was over. Marco Caprera would score his third of the season and Tenute would add his second of the game at 14:02.
The Sting added two goals in the second period. Reg Thomas scored on a power play at 3:33 and then Joey Tenute would get his third of the game at 14:18. The second period would end with the Sting up 6-2. In the third period, the two teams would trade goals. Ryan DelMonte scored his 8th goal of the season at 8:34. Paul Bissonnette would add one more for Saginaw at 11:49. The Sting were 2 for 4 on the power play. Saginaw was 0 for 4. The Sting now have 14 wins at home and are 14-6-3-0 at home this season. This was the Sting’s 30th win of the season. The team last won 30 games during the 1999-2000 season when the team went on to win 33 games. The Sting’s best regular season record was the 1995-96 season when they won 39 games.
The Sting’s next home games will be this Friday and Saturday night. Friday the Sting host the Windsor Spitfires. On Saturday they will take on the Kingston Frontenacs at the SSEC. Both games are at 7:30pm.
