STING MAKE IT TWO WINS IN TWO NIGHTS AT HOME
The Sarnia Sting started where they left off the previous night, with a win at home, this time defeating the Guelph Storm by a score of 4-0 and preserving a shutout for netminder Robert Gherson. Gherson faced 39 shots on the night for his second shutout of the season. Kris Newbury had a point on all four goals getting one goal and three assists. He was the game’s Ranson first star. Newbury opened the scoring early in the game on a power play goal at 2:19.
The Sting would not score again until late in the second period on Ryan Delmonte’s seventh of the year at 14:34. Then almost two minutes later, the Sting on their second power play opportunity notched home a goal by Aaron Power to make it 3 – 0. The Sting would go on a power play with under two minutes to play when Danny Fritsche popped home a loose puck in from of Storm netminder Andrew Penner, his 18th on the year to make it 4 – 0 Sting. There was no scoring in the third period. The Sting were 3 for 5 on the power play while Guelph was 0 for 4. The Storm outshot the Sting 39 to 29. Kris Newbury was the game’s first star, Robert Gherson the second and Danny Fritsche the third star. Referee Jamie Koharski called a total of 14 penalties. 4,079 fans came out to the SSEC to watch the game. The Sting moved into sole possession of second place, one point ahaead of the Windsor Spitfires who lost to Plymouth.
