STING CONTINUE TO ROLL AT HOME AND DEFEAT SOO 7 – 3
The Sarnia Sting entertained the Sault Ste Marie Greyhounds Thursday Night (Jan. 30th) at the SSEC and in convincing fashion handed the Greyhounds a 7 – 3 defeat. This was the first of a 7 game away schedule for the Hounds who are on a three game road swing. Joey Tenute paced the Sting with a 4 point night, scoring three goals and one assist. Danny Carcillo added two goals and 1 assist while Kris Newbury and Danny Fritsche each had a 2 point game. Fritsche with a goal and an assist. Newbury added two assists.
The Sting would open the scoring in the first period on Aaron Power’s power play goal at 3:21. Almost two minutes later, Danny Fritsche would made it 2-0. Tenute added a third goal of the period, his first of the game at 13:57. The Sting would make it a commanding 4-0 lead on a power play goal, four minutes into the second period on Joey Tenute’s second of the night. The Hounds would then find the net and add their first goal at 5:50 of the second period on a power play goal by Scott Dobben. Danny Carcillo would add his first of the game, the Sting’s 5th at 9:15 of the second to make it 5-1. In the third period, Carcillo would score his second of the game at 2:34 making it 6 – 1 Sarnia. The Greyhounds would answer back at 3:18 of the third on Dobben’s second goal of the game. They would add one more to make it 6-3 at 10:53 of the third but with just under 4 minutes to play, Joey Tenute would receive a nice open ice pass up the middle of the ice from Kris Newbury, and Tenute would sail a wrist shot over the top left shoulder of goalie Adam Munro to make it a final 7-3 Sting, Tenute’s third of the game.Tenute was the game’s Ranson first star, Fritsche the second and Carcillo the third. The game took two hours and thirty – one minutes to play in front of 3,832 fans at the SSEC. The Sting were 2 for 7 on the power play. The Greyhounds were 1 for 3. Robert Gherson was in goal and got the victory for the Sting.
The Sting will play Friday night in Kitchener and then on Sunday back home at the SSEC on Sunday for an afternoon game at 2:00pm against the Saginaw Spirit.
