Sarnia Sting General Manager Dylan Seca announced this morning that the Hockey Club has acquired defenceman Christian Kyrou from the Erie Otters in exchange for defenceman Alexis Daviault, two second round picks, a third round pick, a fourth round pick and a fifth round pick.
Kyrou, a 5’11” offensive defenceman from Komoka, Ontario was selected by the Dallas Stars in the second round, 50th overall in the 2022 National Hockey League (NHL) Entry Draft this past spring. Through 116 career Ontario Hockey League (OHL) games, Kyrou has collected 26 goals and 70 assists for a total of 96 points. Over the last two seasons, the 19-year-old has consistently ranked amongst the League’s top defenceman in scoring. This season, Kyrou has tallied 8 goals and 28 assists through 27 games played, placing him second amongst OHL defenceman.
On the addition of Kyrou, Seca comments:
“Christian is one of, if not the premier offensive defenceman in this league. His combination of skill, creativity and competitiveness is something we’ve been looking to add. We believe this will boost our power play and provide another mature player for our backend. It’s also exciting to add the brother of Jordan Kyrou, we know this is an equally exciting day for the Kyrou family.”
17-year-old defenceman Alexis Daviault was originally selected by the Sting in the third round of the 2021 OHL Priority Selection. Through 89 games played with the Hockey Club, the Ottawa, Ontario native recorded 8 goals and 20 assists.
Alexis is going to be a great player in this league, but we are in a unique situation where we believe this team has what it takes to play deep into the playoffs. This trade emphasizes our commitment to this team and the city.”
The Sting are set to face off against the Otters tonight at 7:05pm. The team will then travel to Flint for a 7:00pm matchup with the Firebirds on Friday night before the Christmas break. Following the holidays, the Sting will return to action with Game One of the Finch Ford Battle of the 402 as the London Knight’s come to town for a 7:05pm puck drop on December 30th.
